In April 2025, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians reclaimed their ancestral name, Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation. San Manuel Band of Mission Indians was not the Tribe’s chosen name but rather a name given to them by the U.S. government. The Tribe has worked hard to bring back their language, culture, and way of governing. By reclaiming the name Yuhaaviatam, the Tribe is sharing their story and encouraging others to value Indigenous languages and cultures.
