Welcome from the Mayor of Cottonwood Heights
REVEL Big Cottonwood Presented by Albion
Sept. 4, 2017

Cullimore, KelvynTo All REVEL Big Cottonwood Race Participants,

Welcome to Cottonwood Heights and the beautiful Wasatch Mountains that are the backdrop of our community.  Your experience here is sure to be among the most unique of all races you have run.  Not only is the setting stunningly beautiful, but the race is designed to help you achieve a personal best – it is virtually all downhill!!!

The marathon begins at an elevation of 9,700 feet and ends at the finish line in Cottonwood Heights, an elevation of about 4,450 feet.  That is a vertical drop of 5,250 feet.  But you will not likely notice as you will be distracted by the beauty of the course.

Our city slogan is “City Between the Canyons” as we are flanked by Big Cottonwood Canyon on the north and Little Cottonwood Canyon on the South.  We are perfectly situated for excellent access to recreation, transportation, and education.

Created as a city in 2005, Cottonwood Heights has quickly earned a reputation as a progressive community and a very desirable place to live.  We are proud sponsors of the REVEL Big Cottonwood Marathon and Half as it provides us an opportunity to share the beauty and uniqueness of our thriving community.  We hope you will take the time to explore our restaurants, stores and business establishments both before and after the race.

We express appreciation, in particular, to the businesses along Fort Union Boulevard (the main thoroughfare you will traverse through the city), who have made significant accommodations for this race.  We also thank our citizens who will be temporarily inconvenienced due to detours in their Saturday morning travels to facilitate the race course.

We welcome to our vibrant city the thousands of runners along with their family and friends.  This is a great event and we hope you enjoy your participation so much you will consider returning not only for future races, but to enjoy the amenities our city and area have to offer.

Sincerely,
