  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Perfect course for me, with the uphills coming early when I had energy, and the downhill continuing nonstop to 24.5 miles. Shade until 17 miles helped on a warm day. Great logistics for transport. Great aid stations. Great pie at the finish!

  3. Did you PR?

No PR, but I qualified for Boston.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful course in the mountain. Hoodoo Point was fantastic.
With the steady downhill, all I needed to do was watch my form and let the hill take care of the speed. And don't get psyched out by the first 4 slow miles!
Elevation itself was not too much of an issue at the start, but those hills were tough.
They set the course up perfectly for the hill they had to work with. Best Revel course I've run.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I set my treadmill up on 4 inch blocks in back and train downhill at least twice a week for several months. One outdoor downhill run with a fellow racer, with another friend shuttling us up a 1.7 mile hill to do repeat downhills.
The treadmill got my legs ready for downhill. The outdoor run got me mentally ready.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Great course. Get your legs ready for downhill and work on smooth form on downhill.
I use Hoka shoes, which have lots of cushion and little drop. I think the decreased drop is important for downhill, because the hill will add it's own drop. You don't want to feel like you are running in high heels.
Cool at the top, but dress for heat.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I stayed with a friend. I'll see more of Tucson next time.
    Came from Minnesota.
