  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Started a bit slower than usual; but picked it up in the second half. I loved the views from the course and the fact that so much of it was downhill. I knew I was trashing my quads, but I didn't care. It was worth it. I could see quite a bit of the course ahead of me & the people running it.

  3. Did you PR?

No, because my PR is from 1993 & I'm a lot older now. However, I did run under 4 hours, so I was happy about that.

  4. How would you describe the course?

A lot downhill, but not all of it. It was beautiful; one of my favorite races ever. I loved the rock formations.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I train at altitude, but I really hadn't done as much distance training as I usually do, because I hate to give up hiking to do long runs. Instead, I did a lot of long hikes. It turned out all right for me, but I do recommend training on downhills. I was sore for a week after this race.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Respect the distance, even though it is downhill. Give it all you've got, and have fun.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We went to Green Valley to visit a friend, and went to Nogales, Mexico with her on Friday. We enjoyed the bike path that was very close to the hotel, and went for runs before the race, and a walk afterwards. We also ate at several restaurants. We came from Estes Park, CO.
