  1. Overall Rating

    4/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Everything went quite smoothly in the marathon, from the bib pick-up, transportation, aid stations, porta potties, to the finish. The negative point of the race was the uphills for the first 4 miles which in some parts were very steep. I was not prepared for such a long series of uphills, it was a surprise. Also, I would have wanted a photographer to take a picture of me with the finisher medal at the finish. What I really enjoyed was the beautiful scenery and dry weather. Overall, a very well organized race.

  3. Did you PR?

Yes I did PR by 2 minutes, but did not BQ which was my objective. But I was happily surprised to

  4. How would you describe the course?

The negative point of the race was the uphills for the first 4 miles which in some parts were very steep. I was not prepared for such a long series of uphills, it was a surprise and it hurt my chances of better run in the second half. What I really enjoyed was the beautiful scenery and dry weather.

  5. Tell us about your training.

It is necessary to train the very long and steep uphills of the start and probably run much much slower in the beginning to have your legs ready for the faster downhills and the last 2 miles which will seem much longer as it is flatter.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

SLOW start is the best advise I can give for at least the first 4 miles. It is cold at the start so it is important to have warm clothing. Also, they took away our mylar blankets (which was given with the bib package) a few hundred feet from the start so some runners were freezing right before the start. Also, bring everything you need for the race as the Expo only have very few items. I stayed at the Sheraton which says it has a 24 hour grab and go coffee shop but its not true. I asked to have some bread to have toasted for breakfast and the reception lady said "No". Not a runner friendly hotel.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I came in from business trip from Tokyo and left the next day for my home in Paraguay, South America. I could not find an activity in Tucson.
