    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Amazing views, great volunteers, wonderful race support!

  3. Did you PR?

It was my first marathon, I ran it 30 minutes faster than I anticipated thanks to that glorious downhill course. Although I’m quite sore from it.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Scenic, varied and beautiful. It smelled like piñon and sage.

  5. Tell us about your training.

My longest run was 17 miles, with trails. I ran most of my later longer runs on the trails which helped with my cadence, downhill training and conditioning me on time on my feet. I hiked a lot of those trail runs.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train on hills! Wear a long sleeve layer for the first half, and wear it around your waist or abandon it for the sunny less-shaded second half. Lube up your toes and keep your toenails short. Those piggies will get a little beating on this downhill course.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I was zipping all over Tucson before the race, going to the expo and my hotel and checking out local store Summit Hut. I stayed at La Quinta on Broadway, nice facility for a fair price and close to a lot of restaurants. I traveled from Sierra Vista, AZ, about an hour and a half away.
