Time Slot: 3:40 - Marathon
Name: Mandi McBride
Bio: I started running in the summer 2004 and ran my first marathon in the fall 2004. I worked in the ER at the time and there were about 15 of us that decided we were going to train for a marathon. Out of the 15 of us, it ended up being 2 that actually stuck with it. Carol is like a mother to me and she is the reason I continued to run. We ran several ½ marathons after completing our first marathon together but never had the desire to run another full marathon. Carol and I went on a humanitarian trip to Haiti in January 2010 and arrived there about 30 hours before a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit and killed over 300,000 people. It was devastating and the most difficult thing I have ever experienced in my life. After we returned from Haiti, we decided we were going to qualify for Boston and dedicate that run to all of the families that lost so many loved ones in the earthquake. That year we both ran Top of Utah marathon and qualified, which was my second marathon. We both went to Boston in April 2011 and it was the most amazing experience ever. My sister and wonderful friend Dianne went with us to be our support and cheer us on. My sis and I ran the 5k the day before the marathon which was such an awesome experience. I started pacing in 2013 and have enjoyed every race. There is nothing more incredible than being able to help a runner accomplish a personal goal. It is fun to set a PR but much more satisfying to me to help others reach a goal that they never thought was possible. I have met so many inspiring and incredible people, which is another reason I love pacing!!
