Consistent Mid-Race Performance with Strong Early and Late Splits In the 2025 REVEL Big Cottonwood Half Marathon, Chris Phongsavath showcased a consistent race strategy with a total time of 1:55:27 and an average pace of 8:48 min/mile. Starting strong, Chris improved his pace from an 8:51 min/mile for the first mile to a noticeable peak of 7:32 min/mile at the 5-mile mark. This aggressive early strategy saw him place as high as 42nd in his division, M40-44, but placed a total of 59th by the end of the race. While Chris maintained a steady pace throughout most of the race, he experienced a noticeable slowdown in the final miles, with splits showing a drop to 9:27-9:56 min/mile for miles 11 and 12. The overall performance was consistent with the previous year’s half marathon, just 19 seconds slower. Working on maintaining the earlier pace through the latter part of the race could offer improvement opportunities in future races.
