  1. Overall Rating

    4/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

I live in Evergreen, so doing a local race is always fun. This was my second REVEL Rockies race. Today's race was a beautiful day with perfect weather, and even though the scenery is familiar to me, it was beautiful as always.

  3. Did you PR?

    No :(

  4. How would you describe the course?

Being from Evergreen, the scenery and altitude were familiar to me, which was a plus and a minus. The grade is not as steep as expected. It starts off with some nice rolling, fast hills, flattens out significantly in the middle (miles5-10), then steepens again for the 5K finish.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I didn't really train; thus no PR -- and VERY painful quads.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don't assume that because it's downhill it's an easy race or an automatic PR. Be prepared for extreme temps (cold and hot), be well hydrated (altitude and dry air), and really work on downhill training, including strength training on the quads, calves, and glutes. This time of year, most mornings are cool and clear, heating up significantly later in the morning. For post race protein and beer fix, visit The Little Bear in Evergreen on Main Street. For more a more sophisticated lunch with wine, check out Creekside Cellars across the street.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I live here, so nothing special.
