  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

The race was excellently organized from registration, to updates, to the expo, to the actual race itself and the after party. The course support was completely thorough and well designed, with plenty of aid stations, bathrooms, and gels/foods. Race day was certainly exciting.

  3. Did you PR?

I missed my PR by about 90 seconds and remained about 7 minutes shy of a BQ.

  4. How would you describe the course?

The scenery is a great mix of Colorado. As I live in Denver, the elevation in the beginning was not an issue, as the downhill running is less aerobically demanding. However, the downhill grade took a toll on my legs and they wore down significantly at the end.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I did a lot of downhill running to train, as I live in Denver, including the first 20 miles of the course three weeks ahead of time. If I were to go back, I would have run even more miles and even more downhill, as my legs still didn't hold up to the pounding all the way through the race.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Do not skimp on downhill training! I did a lot of downhill training, including running the first 20 miles of the course about three weeks out, and it still go the better of me. Dress for the heat in the second half of the race and power through the cold at the top.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I traveled from Denver, so it was good to sleep in my own bed the night before the race.
