  2. Describe your race day.

A cool morning which I was thankful for as the days leading up to it were not. The start area at the Half was well organized and large. A nice rolling start was a great warm up for the first two miles then a blistering downhill to get the run really rockin. I looked at my watch for 3 miles and 10K and couldn't believe I was running that fast! Ran the tangents well, blew through the aid stations where volunteers knew exactly how to pass cups of water. Portapotties at most of them and didn't need them. Beautifull scenery although I must admit that I was too focused to really admire it. Legs tightened up with two miles to go. Pain is temporary. Left quad and calves screaming. Finished sub 2. Fifth in AG. Very happy with my pace and time for this old girl who runs only trails and ultras. New kind of intensity with speed and distance. I waited for my friends at finish line so didn't get my beer. When we went to get one around noon they had run out! Not happy about that! Thanks for a great race tho. Get more beer.

  3. Did you PR?

    I guess. Haven't run a half in 35 years. So don't remember.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful if you like road racing.

  5. Tell us about your training.

Skied all winter. Little running. But I'm in good shape with a good running base from 2016. Didn't start consistent running training until April. Usually run 40-50 miles per week but late training saw only 45 miles one week in May. Two big training days - 19 miler 10 days before and a 24 miler 4 weeks before. All on trails with heavy elevation and altitude. This half was a good test of speed, mental strength and pain tolerance for my 55K in July.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train on downhills. A lot. Do a long downhill run of at least 10 miles.
Be prepared for any kind of weather. Having a drop bag at the start to leave warm clothes in was GREAT! It was really warm at the finish line in the morning where the buses picked us up but once at the start line it was a bit chilly. Thankfully I brought two jackets just in case. Glad I did. The drop bags are flimsy and not too big tho. Mine almost ripped and I saw others that did.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Visit with my girlfriends. Go to the Mexican place in Morrison after for great food and beer.
I live in the Lake Tahoe region so this race was an excuse to see my friends here in Denver area.
