Consistent Start Followed by Strategic Adjustment Lyle Phelps showed a promising start in the 2026 REVEL Mt Charleston Half Marathon with consistent pace improvements over the first 4 miles, beginning at a 9:19 min/mile and improving to an 8:32 min/mile by mile 4. Notably, Phelps maintained strong division placements, reaching as high as 4th in his age group M70-74 by mile 4. It's a commendable performance considering the age category and early race splits. In the later part of the race, there was a noticeable shift in pace, peaking with a 26:48 min/mile at mile 8, and later stabilizing in the 3:44 min/mile range for the final miles. While the overall finish time was 3:24:49, the adjustment observed in the later miles could be an area to investigate for future races. Moreover, comparing to last year's pace of 8:50 min/mile, there's an opportunity to leverage past insights to regain that momentum.
