  2. Describe your race day.

Quick load on the really nice buses for the drive up the mountain. We'll organized start with no National Anthem (boo!) . The run was great as as expected: easy course, great weather, good aid stations. The finish was well organized and the picture areas we great. The only reason I didn't give Revel 5 on this race was how the pacers were handled, as in, where were they? As far as I could tell there were two pacers for the full: 315 and 355... What. The. Hell? For a race where people are there to BQ that's really sad. I had my own pacer who joined me from my running club in LA but for the rest? That sucks. I'm sure you had a reason why you didn't use Beast Pacing but I can't imagine what it could have been. They're great. I'm glad at least Jen was there for the 355 folks. I PRd by 9 minutes and got a solid BQ, so good experience for me.

  3. Did you PR?

Yes, by 9 min with a BQ with a solid cushion.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Mostly down hill with some minor climbs. Easy, fast, great qualifying course for Boston. Not as agressively down hill as Canyon City and with almost none of the climbs in that race and very little flat running. Not entirely downhill like advertised but short of getting out dynamite and grading machines, as close to all downhill as you can find. Scenery was pretty for the most part but not what I'd call spectacular. Very nice though.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I was well trained coming in. I do quite a bit of downhill running which I think helped but the biggest thing I did right was I had a plan and stuck to it. Start out easy and save the race for after mile 16 where I started to slowly shave of pace until the end. I passed almost 100 runners in the last quarter of the race and nobody passed me. That felt great and kept me motivated. No wall, tired legs yes, but no wall.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Join a club with a coach. Best thing I've ever done for my running. Keeps me motivated when I don't want to run and keeps me on a plan rather than random training. I got food poisoning the night before so I felt terrible for the first half of the race and lost 1.5 min in a porta potty because of it. What could I have done differently to avoid that? No idea... Still, just a warning.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Took a bunch of pictures with my pacer and my family with the BQ and PR cards. I traveled from Altadena, CA.
