  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Painful at the end, but overall it was a well run race.

I was on the second bus out to the full marathon and the bus driver wasn't familiar with the Kyle Canyon cut off. The driver continued past Snow Drive and continued before asking if anyone knew where the turnoff was.

I responded and had the driver continue to the Lee Canyon turn, where we did a U-turn and then came back.

I don't know that any other drivers had that issue. A blinking marker or reflective marker a couple hundred yards before the turn would solve the issue. Fortunately we left early and arrived at 6 am. If we had left at 5 or later, we may have been late.

  3. Did you PR?

You know it. My previous record was set at Boston in 2014 - it was a 3:04:04 and I ran a 2:56 - PR by 8 minutes give or take. As long as Boston holds to their word and accepts this time, I'm in again for sure and now qualified for NY without having to pay - my cutoff is 3:05 for NY and 3:25 for Boston.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Great! I train up Mt. Charleston lodge area anyway and live close the finish line. We also run some of the same course for RAGNAR in the fall.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I fell off the wagon after Boston 2014 and had some less than stellar marathon times - worst being a 3:23 at the Las Vegas RNR in Nov 2015. Around January 2016 I put in 100.5 miles, same in February around a 7:00 pace and then went up to 122 miles in March at 6:53 pace - with hills a 17 mile run about 3 prior to the marathon.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Depending on experience - try negative splits or at least holding back until mile 13. At 13 miles, carefully gauge energy and fatigue level and work on form and breathing to mile 22 - if they have anything left, just gut it out to 25 or 26 and finish strong. My fastest mile was 6:02 (mile 2) slowest as 7:55 at mile 25 and finished with a 7:33 for the last mile

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Went home and slept - benefit of living close.

Great job - my friend and I liked the finisher's certificate.
