  2. Describe your race day.

My race day started off in such a bad way, I didn't think this was going to even be doable. I slept only 3.5 hours the night before, and had such a problem with my stomach the day before the race I was concerned I was going to be okay. Then race morning came, and my stomach was still acting up and I didn't know if I would keep it down. My knee I had injured on Thursday flared up at the race start, but I was determined to do the race no matter the outcome.

  3. Did you PR?

I did. Previously my PR was 2:03:29 but today I finished at 2:00:31. That means I beat my PR record by about 3 minutes!

  4. How would you describe the course?

It's a gradual downhill slope for the majority of the course mixed with some flat areas. There is a small incline (probably about 500 feet) going into mile 11, and another small, small incline towards the end as well. I didn't pay much attention to the scenery since I'm a Vegas resident. It's a lot of desert landscape, but the mountain you start on is pretty.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I wouldn't recommend my method of training to anyone. LOL! I focus on strength training, mixed with a few HIIT sessions, and plyometrics. I don't enjoy long runs because I consider myself slow, so I didn't run for this half marathon. I would recommend someone to train on hills to practice running the downhill slopes and build lung endurance on the uphill if they were going to be running a downhill race. Downhill will destroy your quads.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

I wore Nike anti-blister socks for the first time today to see if I could avoid the 2+ blisters I get without fail at every marathon. I'm happy to announce I am blister free today! Also, I suggest actually taking the gloves up to the top where you will start your race because even though it feels okay at the finish, it is significantly cooler at the start.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I made sure to pick up my race results and get a professional photo in front of the revel background to celebrate my PR. The professional photographer is there and will take your photo.. Which you get for free... So why not?

Also, I loved the pizza at the end of the race and the cooling towel!
