  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Great race. Started slow to just soak up the atmosphere and really enjoyed myself instead of trying to gun and go all out. I loved being out on the course. I felt a sense of calm away from the city. Water stations were well planned, the shuttles were awesome for allowing us to stay warm before the race. Just an all around fun day.

  3. Did you PR?

I came with the intentions of just running a fun looking half marathon and didn't feel compelled to race. I wanted to just get in a groove and run and enjoy the scenery and other runners. I still finished sub 2 so I'll take it.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Fast for the first 9 miles. First four miles if you do not watch it, you can really go out too fast so you try to reel yourself back in. Around mile 9 you have to do a little work to adjust to not running a descent but it was all good. Great views, cool temps. Amazing

  5. Tell us about your training.

I train year around. This was my first big race since the LA marathon in February of this year. I do a lot of trail running up and down the coast of pacific coast highway at one of the many trails. Two weeks ago, I did 5 miles up and 5 back down at Mt. Wilson. One of the toughest trails and most taxing downhill you will find. Downhill running is my favorite. Now I know the Mt Charleston course, I will come back next year and shoot for a faster time.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Go out conservative in the first three miles then ease into your pace and find a mile pace that is comfortable yet fast enough to compensate for running a slower mile pace around mile 9 to the finish. I staye at the Marriott out on Rainbow road. A lot of food options, close to the race start and a good nights sleep.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I met a lot of first timers. I tried to provide lots of encouragement and just soaked up the atmosphere. I traveled in from Los Angeles
