  2. Describe your race day.

Started really early (3am to be exact).. nerves kicked in as this was my 1st downhill half... was awesome when we got to start area ( a little cold & windy) but over all ...only in Las Vegas do you have warming blanket at start line & cooling rags at end..lol. Everyone was so helpful (volunteers and runners ) the Police personnel out there were awesome... last stretch there was a officer cheering us on. My most memorable moment was when I reached the finish line and a volunteer saw I was almost in tears as I crossed the finish line I had released I met my goal of getting under 3 hours & asked if everything was ok.. then on to getting my medal & big hug from my fellow Grrls run Gemma (her & her daughter volunteered at finish line) I was so excited I didn't realize until on bus that I hadn't take picture of my finish but will take one soon. All my memories were awesome as I ran with several friends and plan on coming back next year.

  3. Did you PR?

I have not run a true down hill course so I am not sure if it counts as a PR... my 1st half was a lot of uphill.. 3hr45min.. my 2nd weather was really bad & not down hill as advertise (out of town ) and was just under 5hrs... but I did beat my own goal of under 3 hours ( 2:52:28.56)
No to Boston ..would love to but for now my goal is just to keep running halves for now.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Loved the scenery. I live in Las Vegas and never tire of seeing Mount Charleston area. The grade & elevation were great... I like the course ( just enough flat & uphill to keep things interesting).

  5. Tell us about your training.

I tried to do a little of every kind of sitituation ( uphill, downhill, flat ) so that I am prepared for anything just in case coarse gets changed or modified.
I train with a couple different groups (GRRLs run & Jusrun & also with a few friends from my Crossfit gym) I am kind of new to running long distance so I take advice from different sources ..even from the people that I buy my shoes from at Redrock running.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Traveling tips would be pack for anything (weather changes especially), course tips would be research the course from the information before signing up so you know what to train for. For dining I tried not to change up my diet too much before race day ( I don't want to find out what upsets my stomach when my nerves are up). Dress how it is comfortable for you...not everyone is comfortable in the same thing.. as for shoes I found that going to a running store has been the most helpful for me to find what shoe will work the best for me .. so glad I did as to keep from getting injured. The last bit of advice that I found out the hard way last year was : don't overtrain for you... not everyone can run 5 days a week & not everyone can run an 8 min mile..for me 3 days a week & 11-15 min mile is plenty with crossfit on off days & at least 1 day of rest saved me from being injured.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I live now in the Las Vegas area (since 1974)
Sounds kind of silly but before the race my fun things were going on training runs with my running buddies (Red Rock area, Mt Charleston area & all over Summerlin & Floyd Lamb park areas) & of course the Gun range road (NW area of town) ... nice down hill training. After the race well I took a long nap (lol).
