    2. Describe your race day.

It was a little bit cold but nothing out of the ordinary
      The scenery was espectacular

    3. Did you PR?

No unfortunaly I didn't. I had 10 miutes to spare for the last six miles but so many hills killed my hips. I was short by 3 min after avg over 11 mins miles in the last four miles

    4. How would you describe the course?

Easy course but hard on you quads and hips. So make sure you hit the gym more often

    5. Tell us about your training.

Been training for over a year for this race; but didnt train enough downhills

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Hit the gym for your quads and hips

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Las Vegas Strip

    2. Describe your race day.

Wonderful race. Well organized, you really know how to take care of your runners. The guy in the blue suit at the finish was awesome. I will do it again next year and I'll do the Canyon City.

    3. Did you PR?

I did the half. I did not PR, I think the down hill was harder than I expected it to be. I think if better prepared, I can get it on the next one.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful, the decent was gradual so not too much pounding.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I had the miles logged. The downhill was harder than I thought it would be. I need more downhill training. I also need a little more room for my toes so I think I will 1/2 size up on my running shoes.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Make sure your shoes are big enough!!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Nothing this year. Next year we will plan better and go to a Vegas show on Saturday night.

      Traveled from El Centro CA

    2. Describe your race day.

It was a great race for me, it exposed several weaknesses in my training plan, which I will use, hopefully for the Big Cottonwood Canyon race in September.

    3. Did you PR?

It was a PR day, considering this was my first official 1/2 marathon.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The first 10 went by really fast, it was the last 3 three got me. I am glad that the hills at the end were not too large, and the grades were gradual, but my hill training suffered.

    5. Tell us about your training.

My training went well, up until the last 4 weeks of it, I pulled a calf muscle on a short run, putting me out for a few weeks, and then adding a cold in the middle of it didn't help me any either.
Prior to that I did follow a plan with increasing mileage, and did all my long runs downhill. Despite it being a downhill course, I would recommend doing a combination of both uphill and downhill running.
I would t change my workout plan, but what helped me a lot was the use of compression sleeves for my recovering calves.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Plan, run, do it.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Walked ba into the car with my wife, went home and slept 4 more hours, then ordered some Chinese food and worked on rolling out my legs for 2 days.

    2. Describe your race day.

      Race day was fantastic!
The start was very cold and the finish was quite warm with a great deal of wind in between, but I don't suppose Revel has control over the weather :)
The volunteers were amazing and made sure everyone was taken care of from blankets, gloves and nourishment at the start to medic, rides and bling at the finish! Very well organized and supported event! The course was incredibly fast, only to prove a giant challenge with uphill at mile 23.

    3. Did you PR?

Yep! (Only by 5 seconds though from my Denver Revel race two years ago. But I got a BQ from both races!!)

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course was fast and furious!
Slight uphill at the start that lead to incredible downhill; you can't help but succumb to the speed.
No traffic to fight, was very nice however that means no crowd support if that's something you need to keep you motivated. A freezing start, into pavement pounding speed, coupled with 25 mph cross/tail/& sometimes head winds, followed by a hot climb, late in the race, did force MANY racers over with torrential leg cramps (so beware). I felt unaffected by the elevation.
      Overall beautiful course!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I'm from flat land, so I really couldn't train specifically for the course. The best I was able to simulate in finding the biggest hill (Kansas doesn't have many) and doing hill repeats. Very comparable to Revel in Denver that I ran in 2015, so while I wasn't necessarily prepared, I knew what to expect.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train for speed!! You don't need to propel yourself but you will run fast which is a shock to all of your muscles! I was halfway through, having made little to no effort (so plenty if fuel in tank) and already feeling sore with muscles tempting to cramp. Downhill is different than anything else and if possible, the only way to train is by running fast and running down.
Don't waste effort slowing yourself, just fall into the gradual grade, use it to your advantage, short soft landings.
Be prepared for a shivering cold start and hot finish!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

From Kansas, there's plenty of entertainment in Vegas... you might save most of it for post race celebration though :)

    2. Describe your race day.

The race event was well organized! It was a cold and clear morning. The race was fast!!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes. I set a PR by 30 minutes and qualified for Boston.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast, the first 13 miles has a much steeper grade. The last 10 was gradual decline and the final three had a gradual incline.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I didn't have the opportunity to train hills. I did a lot of lunges, quad work before. I neglected my calves during my gym days and it is evident in my post race recovery!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Do it! Don't let the cold weather fool you, it warms up by mile 2 or 3.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We ate good food and enjoyed the sun

    2. Describe your race day.

Liked being about to wait in the Lodge on a chilly morning. Great course. Friendly runners and volunteers Enjoyed staying at the Mt. Charleston Resort. Excellent food there. Looking forward to making my video.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes! By 3 minutes. BQ by 18 min.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Good grade. Wasn't as punishing as I thought. Thought I might be short of breath due to elevation but was OK. So glad the wind was behind us for the most part. Running into a headwind would have been a killer.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Regular. Not many long hills where I live so just got the miles in as best I could. My advice is to not take the training lightly. Even though the elevation change is a huge help you have got to be prepared.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don't go out too fast if you can't maintain that pace. Bring your own hydration system to supplement water stops. The dry desert air plus wind and sun are so debilitating without taking responsibility for yourself. Water stations were good. A little disorganized in some spots but hey...everyone is a volunteer!! Needed more sunscreen. Have a lovely sunburn this morning!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Came in just for the race so once I hit the Expo I headed to my hotel. Liked getting the race results on a scrapbook worthy paper. Got a massage. Ate my pizza and pie but had to ask across the fence. Just couldn't eat it right afterwards and the volunteers were kind enough to hand me the food. Loved the signage we could use to take race photos afterwards. Appreciated the soccer field were I laid on the sideline for a while to recover. Thanks for the bluegrass band. They were great! Came from Louisiana. Will be promoting your event to my friends!

    2. Describe your race day.

Race day kicked off with a 40 minute bus ride, followed by an hour and a half wait in 32 degrees temperatures! I came prepared though with fleece and a wind breaker suit. The first 2/3 of the race was amazingly fast. My heart rate was low and it felt effortless to hold a Boston pace. The last 4-5 miles were probably the most challenging I've ever run as my quads were trashed and I was trying to hold pace. I was ecstatic to see the finish line.

    3. Did you PR?

I PRed by 10 minutes and qualified for Boston for the first time ever with a bunch of wiggle room!

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is fastest I've run by far with very few turns. We were running on a canyon road, so the surrounding mountains seemed to help break the North wind. The last 4-5 miles were my least favorite because they were flat and wound into the city. The North wind became a nice tailwind when we turned South so I can hardly complain.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I injured my knee in an ultra 5 weeks prior, so I had to abandon all of my planned training. I cycled to stay fit and ran a couple of miles here and there. A week and a half before the race my injury disappeared, and I began to run again. So my highest mileage day for the last five weeks was 6 miles lol! Ideally I would have run a traditional marathon training plan with emphasis on down hills, tempo runs and speed work but sometimes you have to scrap your plans and listen to your body.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I would advise runners to dress warm and use the drop bag system. It worked great! Fuel early and often in the first half and prepare mentally to fall off a bit in the last 4-5 miles.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

My amazing wife joined me for this runcation, so the next three days will be spent relaxing with her at the Red Rock Resort pool!

    2. Describe your race day.

I was on an early bus so I was able to get into the indoor waiting area. Those that were outdoors were cold! The water/aid stations were very well-stocked after the first half. However, in the early miles, there were not enough volunteers at the aid stations to keep up with the demand for water. We were taking cups as they were filling them. This is something that needs to be addressed. It was coming into a hot day and we needed the water! Also, it would be awesome if the packet pickup were in the same area as the start or finish, so we could check those areas out. We didn't have time to do the "practice" drive that I usually do to locate the bussing area/finish in the daylight, the day before. Those that had to take the shuttle back to their cars had a loooong wait and must have been quite upset. My husband drove separately and parked closer to the finish line. If you can find a location that would prevent having the shuttle at the end, that would be best.

    3. Did you PR?

I didn't PR but I did qualify for the Boston Marathon.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Absolutely stunning! The only "not pretty" part was the last 3 miles in town. And of course, the newly added "out-and-back" wasn't pleasant. I'm sorry that the loop at Mile 5 was taken out.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I run 40-45 miles per week and run about 1 marathon a month. I did stadium steps twice a week in the last couple of weeks to get ready for the downhill and wished I had done more. My advice would be to not go too fast in the early miles.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Sign up for this one, and enjoy!!!! This is a Class A, top notch event with fantastic organization, great safety/protection for the runners, and wonderful, enthusiastic volunteers. Make sure that your flight arrives in plenty of time because we arrived at LAS at 5 PM and I was worried about getting to the expo in time, with having to get to the rental car center and fighting traffic to the other side of town.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We went to Red Rock Canyon and drove through the strip. We traveled here from Indianapolis, IN. I don't always bring my spouse with me, but this was enough of a "destination" race that he came.
