    2. Describe your race day.

This course is beautiful and fast! the weather was perfect too.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes! by 1:45! I got BQ also by 14 minutes.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast and beautiful. The turn around at mile 24? I believe was rough- into a strong headwind and uphill.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained for downhill on a treadmill at 3% grade. My teammates who did the half did not do any downhill training and were complaining about pain in quads @ 4 miles into their race. I thought the downhill was amazingly helpful but I trained for it.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

train for downhill and then do this race if you want to BQ!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Went to old Vegas- Freemont street. Went to see the fountains at the Bellagio. Traveled from Atlanta Ga.

Great race! Just make sure the bus drivers know how to get to the start. That made me nervous.

    2. Describe your race day.

Awesome gradual downhill course and I felt great. The road was recently resurfaced and felt good.

    3. Did you PR?

No but that is because I had some health issues recently.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Great downhill but not so steep that I had to hold myself back. Almost perfect really (the uphill into the wind at the 10 mile turn wasn't so great but it was short thank goodness!

    5. Tell us about your training.

Do a little bit of hill training - up and down - that's what I did and it served me well.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Let the hill take you down and go with it. I went much faster than I anticipated without anymore effort because of the hill.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

After cleaning up afterward we went to the Paris Buffet in Vegas.

I didn't notice any mile marker after 11 miles and was surprised to see the finish line appear.

    2. Describe your race day.

Overall this was a great and fast course. The only issues are:
      1) 3:15 pacer was well behind me (I guess by minutes). This made me think I was going to finish below 3:15:00, instead I finished with 3:15:22. Please find out if 3:15 pacer really finished higher than 3:15 and why - It's not good following a pacer that doesn't finish on time!
      2) The turn around segment at miles 23-24 was very hard. Also because of the wind gust, we ended up walking for some yards
      3) The sharp turn right before the finish was also kind of odd
I enjoyed the gentle slope for most of it. Very well organized, thought kind of plain compared to a Rock & Roll with music and other entertainments.

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes. Thank you :)

I already qualified for Boston 2018 at the past CIM w/ a 3:32min buffer. With this race, I now have almost 10min buffer.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Grade gentle downhill for most of the race. Great scenery too.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Followed standard marathon training with some downhill long runs.

      Paolo,

You're not the only one who has issues with the pacers. I was counting on the 3:35 pacer and she started out at a 7:09 pace. Had I actually stuck with her I would have crashed at the end. I understanding starting out a little faster but a whole minute faster than the needed pace was ridiculous to me. So I hope they figure out this pacing thing because that's the one thing I was not happy with.

    2. Describe your race day.

Fast course, was first in my age group, until about 21 miles, then developed quad issues ...ended up 6th, but still got a BQ.

    3. Did you PR?

      Did get a BQ !

    4. How would you describe the course?

Liked everything about it, fast and scenic, extremely well organized.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Ran about 800 kms in training.

      Quads bad at 21 miles!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Stayed at the Mt Charleston Resort , ok, handy to start.

Take a down jacket, and put it in bag check....cold and windy at pre race.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Death Valley, headed to Yosemite next.....bucket list places.

Drove down from Maple Ridge (Vancouver) BC

I found the start a little disorganized, the pacers were all bunched up together, should have been more in waves, I never did see my pacer!....that's it, my only negative of the entire race

    2. Describe your race day.

Amazing! Thank you for having the lodge open so we could stay warm, seeing friends at the start, getting photos, I felt so good for such a long time. Seeing some friends who were working at an aid station, a few friends on the course... really though, aside from my PR and BQ, the best part of this race for me was seeing my friend PR and BQ! She is my Boujee... we are #bettertogether

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes! I PR'd by almost 7 minutes, I have not PR'd since Boston 2014... I got a PR and BQ - 3:16:57

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is beautiful, almost all downhill. The beginning starts uphill but then very quickly starts descent. There is another small uphill at mile 4 and again around mile 12. The road twists and turns a bit, and running tangents ends up making you run on camber sections of road a lot, but it's not bad if you're used to it. The WIND actually caused more problems than anything. After around mile 18, the downhill isn't as noticeable, and after the right turn at 21 it feels flat. The out n back portion was significantly rough this year on almost all the runners because we were running into the wind after the turnaround. Also, the finish.... it would be nicer to be able to run straight into it vs having to run around and back into it. Very hard to judge time/distance to the finish the way it was set up. Aside from that, I love this course, I'm legacy and will continue to run it!

    5. Tell us about your training.

Training....this race is an excellent PR and BQ course but you have to train downhill... or your body just has to like it. I'm a mileage junkie, so I typically run lots of miles. I also added track to work on speed. I'm an official pacer so I pace a lot of races, my long runs are generally pacing marathons. I also live in an area in the desert where it's always windy.... running in the wind helped me deal with the wind when it came. My training advice is ALWAYS to put in the miles. If you want to just run a marathon, do whatever you want. If you want to run a GOOD marathon and ENJOY yourself during it? Train well. Long runs are number one. Consistent runs are number two. 3-4 days a week, every week. One day of speed, whatever you prefer, track intervals or tempo.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Book your travel early... if you have friends in Vegas, that's the best option. Train for downhill, and be aware of the camber of the road... it's tilted, we run on the right side. It's roughly 28-35 on top of the mountain at the start, the inaugural year it was snowing. However, it warms up quickly when you're running. Bring toss clothes, mylar blanket, hand warmers, gloves. Anything you can use to stay warm before the start and the first few miles. Shoes - wear something that you won't hit your toes constantly on the downhill... usually I say wear shoes half a size bigger if you don't already. If you're used to carrying your water, you may want to carry a handheld - the aid stations are roughly 2 miles apart.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

My friend and I traveled from SoCal.... before the race we met up with other friends for dinner... after the race we enjoyed the casino, had some drinks, buffets, played slots, bingo. AND spent several hours in the hot tub recovering after the marathon lol!

    2. Describe your race day.

The most memorable part of the race was during the last few miles when I realized that I was going to PR and qualify for Boston.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, beat my old PR by 17 minutes and qualified for Boston!!
Both of my friends also PR'd.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Very scenic in an old west sort of way. Nice gentle grade going downhill, although my quads and shins are killing me today.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I was on the wait list and didn't get into the marathon until one week prior. Other than my normal running, I didn't have time to train. Just taper.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Train on a downhill course?

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Way too sore to do much of anything after the race, other than go out to dinner with my friends to celebrate. Came from Orange County.
