    2. Describe your race day.

Woke up around 3am, try to eat some oatmeal, brought a couple of granola bars, also put some hot water into a canteen container, drove to the La Mariposa Resort where the volunteers directed the cars to park. Try to remember where I park in the dark, walked to the bus. Thought about waiting for the 2nd or 3rd bus, but got on the 1st bus. Was able to stay in the community center to keep warm and they had a place to get hot drinks opened that early.

    3. Did you PR?

No, I did not PR. My PR was at Big Bear. I think my next one and the fastest will be Kulia. I was off by 20 minutes of my Big Bear PR, I did not qualify for Boston.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Tough course that 1st 4 miles and I couldn't get my breath back after that. It was tougher than it looks. Couldn't run my pace after that 1st 4 miles.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Need to practice running uphill. Those uphill just takes your breath away and you don't have the energy to run after that. Listen to coach Paul, practice running uphill. See how much energy is spent and do you still have enough energy to run after that uphill. You won't be able to get that breath back right away, but need a few miles just to get situated again.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Find an easier course like Big Bear or Kulia! If you can find the Nike Vaporfly 4%, use that during the marathon, it really is fast. There's a nice Chinese buffet by the Sonata ES hotels on Speedway!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

After waking up at 3am and going to the marathon, the most fun thing I did was went to sleep after coming back from the marathon (after showering of course!) The hotel did have good water pressure for the shower unlike other hotels I stayed at where they have low pressure water.

It was beautiful and the course was well marked. Running down a mountain is awesome!

    5. Tell us about your training.

We followed an online training plan and it worked pretty well.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don't run this race if it's your first marathon. Maybe Revel is better suited to runners looking to BQ

    2. Describe your race day.

My race day was so amazingly smooth and perfect. I woke up at 3AM ready to give my all for 13.1 miles and I did just that. I still have a runners high from this race! This was by far my favorite course as it was so incredibly scenic and the views were breathtaking all the way down the canyon.

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes! I PR'd by 2 minutes and 39 seconds in the half-marathon.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Gorgeous, breathtaking....the views on the way down the mountain were so incredible. I wish I could have taken pictures but I can't run fast and take pics.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Originally I was using this half as a fitness test so I could see where I am as I head into marathon training. I didn't really train for the half like I normally would. I did 6 weeks of workouts as I was coming back to running after a few months off. I do live in a hilly area so most of my runs were done on hills which helps big time on a course like this. My training runs for this race were not that great, I struggled a lot and I really wasn't sure what would happen at Mt. Lemmon.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Get to the bus loading area EARLY as there is one road in and out and it was crazy to get into the parking area. As far as training goes, train on hills! This is super important for any revel race. Also, strength training in your pre-season is crucial so you can build up your leg strength- 2-3 days a week. I say pre-season because once you start adding mileage, it can be hard to keep up with strength so I would recommend keeping 1-2 days of strength leading up to your race.

    2. Describe your race day.

My race day was a great experience! Super fun and love the course

    3. Did you PR?

Yes I did last year was 2:06 this year was 1:58 I am very pleased with myself.

    4. How would you describe the course?

It's a fun fast and beautiful course to run.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained for 18 weeks since I did Ironman 70.3 2 weeks prior to this race. I just worked on improving my running time by running, strength training and of course biking and swimming.
It all worked pretty well I am still walking today:)

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Cross train run down hills as much as possible and find some rollers to run on at the end of your training day.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Eat, eat and eat! We went to Pita Jungle and a burger place afterwards.

    2. Describe your race day.

Very smooth parking (park early!!!) and bus ride up the mountain. Weather could not have been better and the course was breathtakingly beautiful!!! I felt so lucky to be there!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes!!! By 7 minutes. And got my BQ (4 minutes under)!!!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Absolutely beautiful. Significant ascent in first 4 miles, but after that - it’s fast!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I topped out at about 50 miles a week. Probably would prefer to get get in the 55-60 range someday, but that’s what I was able to make time for this training cycle. I ran another marathon 9 weeks prior, so after taking a few days off to recover I jumped right back into marathon training. Normally I wouldn’t do that, but I wanted to get that Boston qualifying time! So glad I did!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Start slow and don’t worry about being way off pace those first 4 miles. The elevation gain is significant and you will feel the elevation being above 8,000 feet. You will absolutely make up your time in the following 22 miles!! Do this race - you won’t regret it!!!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Mostly just enjoyed the perfect weather and ate some good food! I traveled in from Denver and was by myself, so it was a short trip for me.

    2. Describe your race day.

Perfect! Gorgeous course, great weather, and amazing volunteers.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes; I PRd by 7 minutes

    4. How would you describe the course?

It was beautiful. I went in nervous about the first 4, and they were certainly challenging, but after four it was incredibly smooth sailing with a few small climbs but nothing terrible. The last mile was pretty ugly, but I don’t think anything is pretty when you’re 25+ miles into a marathon ;)

    5. Tell us about your training.

I don’t have hills to train on, so I run flat, and I run lots of miles.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don’t let the first four dictate the tone for the race.

    2. Describe your race day.

      Perfect weather, perfect destination race!

    3. Did you PR?

I set a PR by 10 minutes on Mt. Lemmon and this was my fastest marathon in several years. I did BQ by 20 minutes.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Gorgeous and tough. You have to keep thinking throughout the entire course.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I used the Revel training program this year. The first four miles went really well this year. I was much better about incorporating downhills into ny runs.
I still need to work on the muscle/fatigue that sets in over that last 6 miles.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Be patient during the first half of the race.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

My youngest son, Benjamin and my brother in law, Barry ran the half this year. Barry lives in the area so we spent time visiting as we live in Wisconsin. It is becoming an annual pain fest.
