    2. Describe your race day.

The race was very well organized. I liked the big buses on the way to the star. That was much better than the school bus. The drop bag station was easy to get to. It was so nice that we were allowed at village inside and kept us warm all the way to the start time. The expo could have more vendors. At the finish line I was able to get my medal and bag in 5 min. High five for this.

    3. Did you PR?

      No, I did not.

    4. How would you describe the course?

First three miles are uphill. So plan on making the lost time on the downhill. There are some uphills here and there, but not as significant as the first three miles. The elevation was not a problem for me. The course is beautiful and peaceful. I liked the motivational signs through the course. That was nice touch. The only thing that I did not like is the last mile. Is flat and the road condition was poor.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Part of the reason that I did not PR was that I did not prepare as well as should have. I normally run between 45 to 50 miles, and for the past few months I was putting 35 miles a week and significantly lower pace. For this race I would train and equal amount for uphills and downhills.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Uphill repeats.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I relaxed at my hotel. Went out for a dinner and head back home to Phoenix after the race.

    2. Describe your race day.

I absolutely loved this course! This is my first time here and I loved the steepness (but not too steep! ) of the course and especially the end where I couldn't see the finish until the very last (unlike the 3 miles of flat at the end of Big Cottonwood!). I was very please there were only about 1500 total runners because it was nice not having the race course be so crowded.

    3. Did you PR?

I think I came very close to getting a PR because I can't remember all my other race times. I will go online and check. I didn't qualify for the Boston Marathon because I ran the half marathon, but for me I did very well.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast, beautiful, excellent amount of downhill and just slightly flat or uphill. This is my new favorite race! Loved the cactus, the view of the city, and the fact we were only about 6,000 feet to start.. I live at 8500 feet in Colorado and the only part of me which hurt were my legs and feet -- not my lungs this time.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I didn't get to train very much because of work, concert band rehearsals, taking care of my elderly Mom, and just life. I think I could do very well if I trained more!

    2. Describe your race day.

The most memorable thing about the race was how great I was feeling for the majority of the race and how awful my legs felt in the last miles. I was surprised that I was going much faster than planned and felt amazing while doing so. The end was not pretty with the leg cramps, but a little bit of willpower and some crowd support got me through the finish.

    3. Did you PR?

PR by over 20 minutes and got the BQ!

    4. How would you describe the course?

A short uphill followed by a long, steep downhill. Scenery changes from forests to desert with constant changes from cool shade to sun.

    5. Tell us about your training.

A lot more mileage than what I did for my last marathon. More 10+ mile runs. Was hitting 40/50 miles per week and did an 80+ near the end for fun. Included hill workouts on long runs to get form and pace down. Two week taper of sub 20 mile week, race pace one week out, then light biking until race day.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Practice downhill running in the midst of long runs. It's a marathon, so simulate doing the mileage and the course at the same time when possible.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Food is always fun. The USO in the Phoenix airport has some great people and free food. Caruso's Special at Caruso's was good for carb-loading, and Brooklyn's has some stellar Chicken Parm sliders.

Excellent grade for nearly the entire Half. Beautiful scenery.

Revel covers it all in their info.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

    2. Describe your race day.

Excellent race day. I was not in shape for a marathon but I greatly enjoyed using this race as a long run with over 400 of my running buddies. The weather and views of the the city were fantastic. ALL of the volunteers were also great!
I'm a veteran of FIVE UP HILL marathons on Mt. Lemmon. It's definitely easier on the heart running downhill! This was my first Revel marathon and I was very impressed with the organization.

    3. Did you PR?

No, that was NOT my plan today. I hope to return next year and qualify for the Boston Marathon.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Everything was great. I knew the downhill would be tough on the legs, especially the quads.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I just need to do more marathon specific training for next year. This year, I was in shape to finish but not to race for a Boston Qualifier. I signed up, at the last minute, after several successful half marathons earlier in the year. The of shorter strides (not over striding) and keeping the cadence at 170 to 180 worked very well. Next year, I plan to actually do more downhill (and uphill) training.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

For the Mt. Lemmon Marathon, the best advice I received was to go out slow for the first 4 miles. Then, relax, focusing on stride and cadence! It worked for me, today, achieving negative splits for most of the marathon.
P.S. Thanks for the gloves. They were the only item I really needed for the temporary cold at the top!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I live in Tucson and there are always fun things to do here. It was great to meet other runners from all over the country. I am truly fortunate to live in southern Arizona.

Traffic control seemed to be the only major issue this morning. I arrived early to park. There were NO volunteers to direct us where to park. They arrived around 3:50 am. Later, I noticed that traffic into the La Mariaposa staging area was jamming up. Departing buses had trouble leaving the area for our destination. The 4 late buses to the top of Mt. Lemmon caused the race to start late. In the end, runners pre-race routines were really messed up because of the traffic and late start issues. The volunteers for directing NEED to be in place by 3:30 am if the buses begin boarding and departing in the 4:00 am to 4:30 am time window. Everything else was EXCELLENT. I really enjoyed my run and plan to do other Revel races. Thanks!
