  2. Describe your race day.

Beautiful day for a marathon. The weather was great, the volunteers were very much appreciated and the water/Powerade stations were plentiful. Everything was so well organized! I also liked the ease of the drop bag -- probably because this is a small enough race. Enjoyed the finish and how it seemed to be right there after the final turn -- that definitely helped.

  3. Did you PR?

    No, I wasn't going for a PR.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful course, loved the downhills! I enjoyed the amazing views throughout the run. Awesome support with many water and Powerade stations. The elevation and grade weren't issues for me. The last mile was good -- and I liked being able to hear the loud music and the announcer right before making the final turn.

  5. Tell us about your training.

Not much this time around -- I ran a marathon in late August, a half marathon in late September, and a 10k two weeks ago. If I actually truly trained, then maybe a slim chance of a BQ -- just maybe. My advice to others would be to make sure you train for both downhills and the hills. When it got a bit too hot in the last few miles, I poured water over my head to cool me down. It was so hot that it dried quickly anyway, and it felt good to do. As always, I also regularly took GU and salt pills.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Revel Canyon City would be an awesome first marathon. Yesterday was a friend's first 26.2 and he rocked it! This is a smaller marathon with amazing views and enough downhills to allow runners to PR. Wear layers so that you're not caught off-guard with the cold or heat. Most definitely, a very enjoyable course to run a first marathon.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

After arriving in town, our group from Northern CA drove the course the day before. We definitely enjoyed previewing the route and knowing what to expect for the marathon. Throughout the drive, we were in awe of the beauty all around us. We were also amazed that we would be running through it all the next morning.
