  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

this time I left the phone in its sleeve, and enjoyed the landscape and the views. Best. Decision. Ever!
Next year, I'll get a Go Pro camera :-)

  3. Did you PR?

I did! By 6 minutes over the last one (Revel Rockies).
I BQ'd for Boston 2016 with ReveRockies, but Canyon City got me my BQ for 2017

  4. How would you describe the course?

    Beautiful.
The first half is straight down, but the second half does have a good number of hills. The elevation is not a problem.
One thing I would change for next year is the photographers and the placement of the "photos ahead" sign. At Revel Rockies the sign was well ahead, so you had time to distance yourself from the other runners and strike your best pose.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I was bad this time around and did not train specifically for down hill running. I switched to 30-45 minutes runs with 1 minute sprints every 5 minutes. I only got 3 longish (13 miles tops) runs before the race. And lots of biking over the past few months.
I didn't load up on carbs, I switched to a high fat diet, and it seems to greatly lessen sore legs. I powered the run with chocolate almond butter.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don't go too fast on the first half, and be ready for the hills during the second half.
Clothing-wise, I had a light black compression shirt on, which worked great for the most part in the sunny parts.
This run is hard on the toes and toenails because of the decline, so make sure to clip your nails and wear shoes that are good for flat terrain.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

does the 50 mile bike ride home count as fun? Just a quick in and out trip for the marathon.
I came from West LA. Looking forward to the Gold line extension for next year!
