    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

Honestly despite my complete training, any marathon course is a challenge to me. Suggestions: Signup more interval runners like me who can finish in under 6:06. We could use more company. Also, on Azusa Ave & 9th Street there is almost no one cheering us on who finish between 5:30-6:06 when we need it the most. Finally, could the course be re-routed from Azusa & 9th to either zig-zag to APU or just continue down Azusa? That hill on 9th Street just about assures me after the finish I'm gonna feel bad.

  3. Did you PR?

No. I over ran last year to PR, & the hills at about 15 & 19 took it all out of me. PR is not my goal.

  4. How would you describe the course?

Not mentioning the obvious. But rather to me a 60 yr old Jeff Galloway follower who can't quite do all 26 at 11 mint: The variety of downhill to 14/15 is nice. The up & downs from there to what is it 21(?) require a plan. Up to the turn at 25 I can adjust. If I get it right up to there, the hardest part is that damn last hill on 9th street. My goal is figure out how to take that hill & not feel like crap after the finish line. (Maybe have the course cut/continue from 9th Street downhill somehow...!?!)

  5. Tell us about your training.

Jeff Galloway run/walk intervals. I am 60 yrs old, & every marathon I run the 1st half fast has turned out not to be the greatest experience. Whereas in the opposite, it's a very good experience. I've yet to do any in over six hours.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

It seems like you advice everyone to slow down at the hills then return to their pace afterwards. Good advice I suppose. But what about the run/walkers who maybe could never do that but can finish in under 6:06? I see many of them over running before they get to the hills. Then after the hills they just gut it out in misery till the finish. (Obviously, they need to slow down then have a plan for the hills. [9th Street I guess is all guts if one has any left.])

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I ran down GMR for downhill mountain prep. It's creepy when it's dark. I haven't joined a running group, because I don't want to mix Jeff Galloway interval training with regular training. (After an hour or more of recovery, TJ Phillips is nice...)

From the corner of 9th & palm drive I cheered the finishers until the last barefooted one. Cheers for you all #3434
