    2. Describe your race day.

Plastic cups? Plastic cups??!! Bad choice. You can't pinch plastic cups. Drinking on the run or while walking quickly can be a little messy if you don't pinch the cup. And lots of those plastic cups ended up on the ground. If you kept moving at a good pace, you ended up past the last trash container when you finished drinking. One or two more trash containers are needed at each aid station. Other than that, everything went smoothly. The buses were the nice ones, not school buses, the race started on time, volunteers were all great and stayed at the side of the road without crowding the runners path, the medal and shirt were quality stuff, the timing tag stayed on the bib, not the one that goes on your shoe, and so many other details that make a race more enjoyable. One more cool detail that most people won't notice: The course elevation profile is a subtle design element in the upper left corner of the bib. As the Terminator would say: I'll be back!

    3. Did you PR?

      PR by 6 minutes

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course started out in a forested area at high elevation with a prominent, somewhat demanding downhill grade, transitioning to the high desert landscape with a more moderate downhill grade, and going into a suburban area with some flat stretches during the last 10K. The finish is at a very nice park with lots of places to stretch, relax, meet with friends, etc.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I didn't train any differently for this race since I always do hill repeats when preparing for a marathon. It's somewhat hilly where I live so training runs always involve running uphill or downhill. Make hills your friend and find a place to run that has an uphill section of at least 3 miles, then run back down that part.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Even though it's downhill, the high elevation in the early miles will have you breathing a bit harder than normal. And be ready for cold temperatures. The beanie and mylar blanket you get are a good start, but the gloves are too open a weave. Have gloves that keep the cold air out and your fingers warm.
Make sure your shoes are in good shape. If you have too many miles on them, the cushioning will compress too easily and won't protect you from the greater impact of downhill running. If you're not sure, go to a running specific store with a staff of experienced runners and get their input. Get shoes that are the right type for your feet and running mechanics and feel right as soon as you put them on, not the ones that look cute or cool and just feel okay.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

My post-marathon recovery always involves staying active. Keep moving, stretch often, and you recover better. I went hiking in Zion National Park for 3 days.

      Yes! PR

    3. How would you describe the course?

Nice. The downhill grade the first half of the race was GREAT. easy and fast.

    4. Tell us about your training.

I would train my quads more to strengthen my knees.

    5. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I got adjusted for the first time by a chiropractor. It was awesome.

    2. Describe your race day.

Had to get up at 3:30, that was probably the hardest part. Couldn't get to bed early enough. Once there it was so easy to get on the buses and to park. Plenty of porta potties and that was a plus. Volunteers were great. Weather couldn't have been better with the clouds and slight breeze. So easy to put the drop bags on the truck and then the volunteers were great and so quick to find them at the end. Love how we got a card with our times on it and the place medals were right there. Only suggestion I have and I don't mean to be picky, the refreshments at the end could have been better. Watermelon slices and orange slices, so much better than pie and pizza. Chocolate milk is good to have at the end.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes I PR'd, by about a minute. I did the half.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course was perfect. The downhill grade was good, I didn't think it was too steep. Elevation didn't bother me at all, it actually felt fresh. Couldn't ask for better weather conditions! I did a 10 mile trail run in Utah, nothing so far has been as pretty as that. I did like the run up away from traffic.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I don't have much time, so I did long runs at a 10 minute pace each Saturday before. First I did 7 miles, then 8, last run was a 10 mile. I go out every am with my dogs and we do 3 miles, it's a run/walk with them. I take a step class and body strengthening class twice a week. This works for me. No shin splints, just my legs are a bit sore.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Put in some long miles before the race day. Having the foil blankets at the start really helped. Get a hydration belt and pack your own water.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

It was just fun to talk to others. I didn't have to travel for this one. Even though it took me 35 minutes to get to the spot. That early, there wasn't that much traffic

    2. Describe your race day.

The start line was confusing. They made us drop the blankets then walk to the start line but apparently I missed the start gun (if there was ever an official start) and had to try to play catch up the whole time to try to find my pacer and it was hard running through such a crowd of people. I did not like how the police were telling us to stay to the right of the cones then drove right up next to the cones just to force us, I thought they should have stayed in their own lane. Everything else was pretty good!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, new PR by 7 minutes

    4. How would you describe the course?

It was not very beautiful in my opinion and think the Big Cottonwood and Rockies are way prettier! I also never saw any aid stations giving out Gu when I should have seen 2, and was glad I had packed one of my own. The grade was perfect. So glad the only little tiny hill I had to run was that overpass on the last mile.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I did a few downhill runs and didn't take huge strides when I was on the downgrades.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I was so confused by the weather and didn't know what to wear the morning of the race! Just because it's Las Vegas does not mean it's going to be warm.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Came from Salt Lake, stayed off the Strip and went to restaurants in the city that I enjoy.

    2. Describe your race day.

Quick load on the really nice buses for the drive up the mountain. We'll organized start with no National Anthem (boo!) . The run was great as as expected: easy course, great weather, good aid stations. The finish was well organized and the picture areas we great. The only reason I didn't give Revel 5 on this race was how the pacers were handled, as in, where were they? As far as I could tell there were two pacers for the full: 315 and 355... What. The. Hell? For a race where people are there to BQ that's really sad. I had my own pacer who joined me from my running club in LA but for the rest? That sucks. I'm sure you had a reason why you didn't use Beast Pacing but I can't imagine what it could have been. They're great. I'm glad at least Jen was there for the 355 folks. I PRd by 9 minutes and got a solid BQ, so good experience for me.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, by 9 min with a BQ with a solid cushion.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Mostly down hill with some minor climbs. Easy, fast, great qualifying course for Boston. Not as agressively down hill as Canyon City and with almost none of the climbs in that race and very little flat running. Not entirely downhill like advertised but short of getting out dynamite and grading machines, as close to all downhill as you can find. Scenery was pretty for the most part but not what I'd call spectacular. Very nice though.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I was well trained coming in. I do quite a bit of downhill running which I think helped but the biggest thing I did right was I had a plan and stuck to it. Start out easy and save the race for after mile 16 where I started to slowly shave of pace until the end. I passed almost 100 runners in the last quarter of the race and nobody passed me. That felt great and kept me motivated. No wall, tired legs yes, but no wall.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Join a club with a coach. Best thing I've ever done for my running. Keeps me motivated when I don't want to run and keeps me on a plan rather than random training. I got food poisoning the night before so I felt terrible for the first half of the race and lost 1.5 min in a porta potty because of it. What could I have done differently to avoid that? No idea... Still, just a warning.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Took a bunch of pictures with my pacer and my family with the BQ and PR cards. I traveled from Altadena, CA.

    2. Describe your race day.

I think one of my favorite things was that realized that when I got to the starting line of the half. That I had lost my hair rubberband. I was frantically looking around for it and starting to panic a little because I have longer hair. Another female runner notice me and handed me an extra rubber-band that she had. It made my day and saved my race! :) Also, I loved the announcer at the end! He was great! Loved that the top 3 runners in age group received a medal. IT was fast and efficient. :)

    3. Did you PR?

I did not set a PR but I was really close to it. I think I was off by 2 mins. I did the Bryce Canyon Half marathon before and I think their elevation drop is steaper for the half so I was able to get a faster time. But, none the less I was very happy with my results today!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Scenery was nice, I think the only complaint was the bus exhaust I was breathing in as they sat so close to the half marathoners running down the mountain.

    5. Tell us about your training.

About 5 weeks out, I did downhill training and it really paid off. My muscle didn't give out on me like they have before on halfs because they had correct muscles strengthened.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

About 6 weeks out start doing your long runs on the downhill.

Loved getting the gloves, hat, and mylar blanket. Those really useful! Also, having bathrooms on the bus was so nice also. After fueling up and pre-race nerves it is hard to go that long without a toilet. Those buses were much appreciated! Once again, I loved the announcer at the end! He did a fabulous job!

    2. Describe your race day.

Made friends on the bus. Great route. Needed more notification of how far away the start line. Many of us for the half had not made it to the start line when the race began. Signs to bag pick up and the parking lots would have been nice. I almost forgot I had a bag to pick up and had to google map my way back to my car. I had others ask if I knew where our cars were also.

    3. Did you PR?

      No

    4. How would you describe the course?

I enjoyed the route and the police officers were very helpful. Some people were struggling with the downhill for the long distance.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Increased by a mile every week until I was at 11 miles. Ran a half last Saturday also and I won't do two back to back again.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Weather was better than we anticipated. I was able to stay warm without being on a bus to wait.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Henderson so I just went home
