Marathon
The REVEL Mt Hood marathon course (USATF certification OR18016LB) offers the pinnacle of Pacific Northwest beauty, including breathtaking views of the forests and valleys of the Mount Hood National Forest. Runners will enjoy the fresh scent of towering pines and firs, glimpses of mountain wildlife, and the charm of the Mt Hood Village. If that were not enough, the course is entirely downhill on paved roadway and is a Boston Marathon qualifier!
The marathon begins at the base of Mt Hood, at the historic Timberline Lodge roughly five miles up Timberline Highway. Standing at 5,630 ft above sea level and enveloped in the shadow of the massive volcano, runners will feel a world away from nearby downtown Portland. The course drops an astounding 1,630 feet in elevation in the first five miles as it makes its way down to US Highway 26 and the Government Camp community. That's an average grade of over 6%!
Upon reaching Government Camp, runners will enjoy 20 straight miles of pure running bliss with the sun at their backs as the course heads downhill towards Sandy. Along the way runners will enjoy stunning views of Zigzag Canyon, tunnels of fir-covered roadway, and the charm of the small towns and villages on the mountain.
The final mile takes runners through the tiny Alder Creek neighborhood, winding past logging fields and the beautiful simplicity of rural cottages. Continuing its downhill slope the course ends at the famous Rainbow Trout Farm, where finish festivities await. REVEL Mt Hood is the fastest and most beautiful marathon in Oregon!
