    2. Describe your race day.

We got to the site and it was dark minus the flood lights. Right before the race they announced they were shutting them off so we could experience first light. beginning to end to end was pretty epic

    3. Did you PR?

      I PRd and BQ!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Excellent, description was spot on. No surprises at all.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Did lots of downhill training and downhill treadmill of progressing distances and used JD running(I am a coach)

Do downhill training period. Those who came with us and trained only speed or few hills paid dearly and severely underperformed. If you practiced and mastered downhill technique you'll be fine. Best course but hardest course I've ever done.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Downhill, and strength train those legs!!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Japanese garden and rose garden

    2. Describe your race day.

So organized. Flawless execution by the race directors. The last thing I had to worry about was logistics. The only thing I had to focus on was running fast!

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful. An ideal course for a pr.

    5. Tell us about your training.

      Minimal. But I still pr’d!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Sign up for a revel race!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Not much. I ate some great food in Portland. I also went to the adidas employee store! That was great. I came from Seattle so had to get back.

    2. Describe your race day.

Very well organized race and such a beautiful location, with the ability to visit/sight see!

    3. Did you PR?

No, but it was a very enjoyable. My PR was at Mt. Lemmon and I was super happy with that.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Gradual down hill, lovely area and injury free, which is the best part. I was able to still sight see/hike the next day

    5. Tell us about your training.

I was able to run and up a local hill weekly, about 5-6 miles, so that helped with the downhill grade portion. I recommend this, I felt prepared and no recovery issues!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Same as above, see #5

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Hiked to 3 Falls and other areas prior to the race. The day after the race, went to Canon Beach, Meary Lighthouse and Haystack Rock (2 hour drive each way).

    2. Describe your race day.

Beautiful location! I felt great. I understand the need for the wave start, and it was fine except for the energy at the start was a lot more subdued with a smaller group and more low-key starting line. Still, the Revel enthusiasm was contagious. Our bus dropped us off at a strange place and we had to walk a ways to the waiting area, so maybe the buses need a bit more instruction. My biggest hangup was the aid stations - I didn't bring along food for the race knowing that there would be awesome aid stations along the way. There was one with orange slices and I think bananas and I didn't take any there as I was not quite ready and was sure that if there were these things available at one station they'd be at others. I never did see any fruit again. I'm not sure if they ran out (I was in the last wave) or if that was the plan but I'd say definitely make fruit available at multiple aid stations. I completely ran out of energy by the end. I was ok with the open course for the most part. There were times that I got hit with truck exhaust and that was unpleasant, but overall it was great. I loved the finish line at the trout farm, what a cool place. This race was a blast!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes! I PR'd by one minute. I didn't BQ, nor was I trying to!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Gorgeous! I loved the downhill. It felt great. The weather was perfect - not too cold at the start, not too hot at the finish. It was amazing to see waterfalls right next to the road. I think it was strange to have spectators bused in and runners bused back out from the finish line. It's fun to have lots of spectators at the end and I think numbers were sparse. I understand the need though with such a small area.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I was going to do the Revel Big Cottonwood race in September but life changed a bit and Revel Mt. Hood ended up being a better option. So I missed out on six weeks of training but I was still fine. I used the Hal Higdon Novice schedule and modified it when I changed races.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

The required headphones are awesome. They worked well and I loved the wireless version. We stayed in Gresham and felt like the drive to the bus pickup was not too long.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I'm from California, but I traveled to the race from Utah, where my parents watched my kids. I met with a friend from Colorado and from California. We enjoyed the expo and then found a running store nearby for some last-minute supplies. After the race we got to see Powell's bookstore and had super yummy hamburgers across the street. We road tripped to Seattle later that afternoon and the drive wasn't too long at all.

    2. Describe your race day.

The race was well organized from start to finish. I don't think one memory stands out the most as I crashed towards the end of the race so I've probably been trying to push all memories of the day aside.

    3. Did you PR?

      Negative.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Certainly mostly downhill as expected, but I did not expect the amount of uphill that there was. I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the elevation map.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I did not train properly for the downhill. I ran almost exclusively on flat paths. I peaked at 64 miles with a 3 week taper of about 60/40/20% of peak mileage, with every run being an easy, slower run. This worked for me when I PR'd by over 5 minutes in a half marathon last year with a 1:20 so I was confident it would work for the marathon. I think I would have had a good chance at a sub 3 on a more flat course, but the downhill definitely requires different training than I did (I finished with 3:06 having walked much of the last 6 miles or so : / ).

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train the legs for the downhill!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Explored Portland after the race. Had a fun time eating a ton and hobbling around the city. : ) Drove 8 hours from Chico California with a buddy.

    2. Describe your race day.

Got up at 2:15!! Earliest I’ve ever gotten up for a race. But my friend and I were excited too. Drive about 30 min to shuttles. Then took the shuttles up to start. The start of the race was beautiful running right into the view of the moon! Loved the shade and the trees on both sides. A lot of the times I was by myself and I enjoyed that! I felt great until about mile 6.5 then slowed a bit. The gradual up at 7 tired me. I had done a half marathon race the wwwk prior so my legs were feeling it. I kept going and tried to pick up my pace. And I was missing having my music on race day! When we got on the marathon course I didn’t love it. It was so different from the rest of the course. I didn’t like the sun, traffic and slight uphill there. Turning into the trout farm was great. I loved the narrow road and slight down to the finish. Felt good to cross that finish line and get my medal!

    3. Did you PR?

No. I was 4 min off my PR

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course was beautiful. Loved the trees on both sides and shade. Loved that there was minimal traffic until mile 10 when meeting with the marathon course ...that was my least favorite part. I did enjoy though when we turned into the trout farm. I was thinking there would’ve been more downhill since that’s what revel courses are known for but thought it was more of a flat course with some down and gradual ups.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained 9 weeks on a plan (before that was already running just not training for anything) Speedwork...mile repeats, yassos, tempo runs. Also ran downhill courses.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Feel proud as you put your medal on!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Came from eastern Oregon about 3 hours away. Didn’t do a whole lot because we had to get up so dang early!

    2. Describe your race day.

Overall it was ok since I did not achieve my goal but the race it self was well organized and the volunteers as always were helpful and nice. Not much standout from this race vs. Mt Lemont or Charleston. The high points were beautiful Mt. Hood mountain at start line, race tradition pictures with Coach Paul and Clark!. The low point was to wait almost 40+minutes for bus back to downtown and rolling hills the last part of marathon. Don't think I will run this one again (will run Mt Charleston and Mt Lemont again)

    3. Did you PR?

No. Qualified for Boston at Revel Mt Charleston marathon April this year at 4:35:50 with about 4 min cushion. My goad for Mt Hood is to extend this cushion by 1 or 2 minutes but finished at 4:43 so about 9 minutes off target.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Love the first 10 miles with beautiful view of Mt in the back ground and sun rise. The rolling hills after mile 15 is kind of boring with traffic next to you, plenty of room to run but not very peaceful but rather a bit noisy. I find this course is more difficult than Mt Charleston and no spectators when turn into Sandy.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Training program from Coach Paul is awesome. He explained in details the weekly workout and the reason for each workout which helpful to me to understand the benefits of each workout. Mt. Hood is my third marathon race with Revel and training with Coach Paul. He is easy to talk with and his podcasts are informative, to the point and with great sense of humor. Training advice I would give is to make sure you be realistic with your goal as Coach will build training program on it. My first training was way too aggressive and I could not achieve the training plan pace. Mt. Hood training plan was much closer to my fitness and I was able to achieve most of the workout plan. Thanks Coach!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I like the Host Hotel Double Tree as it only about less than 100 yards from Light Train from and to Portland Airport ($2.50 one way). Also walking distance to Expo location Convention Center and can take light train to downtown. Weather this year was not cold at start line, did not need gloves or blanket. It was very warm by the time I hit mile 20 so short sleeve and short.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Checked out downtown before the race and went to Rose Garden in Washington park after the race. Also went to Seattle the day after the race.
      Traveled from Orange County, California.
