    2. Describe your race day.

The course was STUNNING and FAST! Not only did I qualify for Boston with 10 minutes to spare, but I also hit a PR. The weather (though extremely warm that day in Tucson) was gorgeous due to the altitude and location. The race was beautifully organized. LOVE Revels anyway and this is my favorite out of the three I've completed.

    3. Did you PR?

YES! I PR'd by three minutes. Yes, I Boston qualified with 10 minutes to spare!

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is gorgeous. I was not aware of the elevation of miles 1, 3 and 4 (all uphill), so I wish I'd known beforehand (my fault for not studying the elevation chart). However the remaining part of the course was a perfect downhill without being too steep and that made up for the slow beginning. I was trying to negative split and the course actually helped me to run a perfect race.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I did train downhill with four runs that were 10.5 miles at a similar grade. That helped immensely and would recommend that to anyone running a Revel race. I even took at Uber one day to the top of the hill and ran to my car -- worth the $16!!!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Know the course. Train downhill. Bring disposable layers.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I came from Denver and wanted to purely relax. It was nice hitting the pool in November. I would have liked to hike a little after, but didn't have enough time.

    2. Describe your race day.

It was nice and warm at the top, unlike other Revel events where it is freezing at the top

    3. Did you PR?

      No, I did not PR

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is more difficult than it looks. The first 4 miles is just brutal. Never regain my breath after running up those hills. Looking at the top finishing time for the course, it looks more difficult than Big Cottonwood or Canyon City.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I run everyday for about 4 miles. I should of probably sprinkle in some long 20 miles run.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don't run both Canyon City and Mt. Lemmon when they are only 1 week apart!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Looked at some open houses!

    2. Describe your race day.

The buses were ready to go, and it was a nice ride to the start. I met some old friends and made some new ones as we hung out on top of the mountain. The view at the 4-mile mark made the uphill totally worthwhile. I enjoyed the beautiful course--Revel doesn't disappoint. Finishing with another BQ was a highlight!

    3. Did you PR?

No, but I qualified for boston!

    4. How would you describe the course?

The uphill at the beginning kept me from going out too fast. The grade was not too steep, and my legs felt good at the end. The scenery was just stunning, and even though the flat at the end was tough, the homeowners were our cheering and spectating. That helped alot in the last mile!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I live in Colorado, so I'm fortunate to get in quite a bit of hill training. I usually do my last couple long runs on Lookout Mountain, so I can do an extended downhill run.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

As so many runners say, don't try anything new on race day!
Make sure you've worn your shoes for at least four long runs. Dress in layers--get some throw-away clothes from a thrift store to toss (at an aid station) after you've warmed up! Hydrate well in the few days before the race, and stick to the nutrition you used in training!
Most of all, enjoy the experience! You are doing what so many people can't!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I volunteered at the expo and turned in early the night before the race. After the race, I visited the Pima Air and Space Museum, then ventured to a couple local breweries--fun!

    3. Did you PR?

I enjoyed it, downhill to 11.5 or so with the last bit tough, but beautiful course.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained for the downhill, just not enough flat training

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

to be sure to incorporate downhill training runs, lots of them.

    2. Describe your race day.

I had a pretty good race overall. I did fade a bit more than I wanted to at about mile 22 to the finish. The temperatures were good at the start and borderline too warm at the end, but still doable.

    3. Did you PR?

No. I missed a BQ time by 13 minutes so I was disappointed in that part of the race. I was hoping there would be pace runners to keep me motivated to stay on pace, but I guess it was impractical to set that up on this inaugural race. Oh well.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The first 4 miles were okay and the climb wasn’t too bad. That did require a faster pace to make up for that down the rest of the course. I liked that there was no climb in the last few miles like Revel Big Cottonwood. I’d rather have a slow start than a slow finish. The steady downhill grade for most or the course allowed me to feel pretty confident for most of the race. I really liked the beautiful scenery all along the way.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I train almost all the time on mountain trails right outside my door and save the last week to do a few road runs. I used a 50k race training plan that I found online. It prepared me mostly, but I ended up lacking a little stamina to continue a BQ pace for the last few miles.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I had an 11 hour drive from home to Tucson and I was glad that I broke it up into two lighter travel days. A long travel day before a race tends to drain me a bit. I’m glad I brought a throwaway shirt because I needed a little warmth at the start, but definitely not in the last half of the race.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I didn’t do any sightseeing unfortunately. Just driving. Home is east central Nevada in Ely. So travel planning was certainly was part of my race preparations.

    2. Describe your race day.

Perfect course for me, with the uphills coming early when I had energy, and the downhill continuing nonstop to 24.5 miles. Shade until 17 miles helped on a warm day. Great logistics for transport. Great aid stations. Great pie at the finish!

    3. Did you PR?

No PR, but I qualified for Boston.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful course in the mountain. Hoodoo Point was fantastic.
With the steady downhill, all I needed to do was watch my form and let the hill take care of the speed. And don't get psyched out by the first 4 slow miles!
Elevation itself was not too much of an issue at the start, but those hills were tough.
They set the course up perfectly for the hill they had to work with. Best Revel course I've run.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I set my treadmill up on 4 inch blocks in back and train downhill at least twice a week for several months. One outdoor downhill run with a fellow racer, with another friend shuttling us up a 1.7 mile hill to do repeat downhills.
The treadmill got my legs ready for downhill. The outdoor run got me mentally ready.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Great course. Get your legs ready for downhill and work on smooth form on downhill.
I use Hoka shoes, which have lots of cushion and little drop. I think the decreased drop is important for downhill, because the hill will add it's own drop. You don't want to feel like you are running in high heels.
Cool at the top, but dress for heat.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I stayed with a friend. I'll see more of Tucson next time.
      Came from Minnesota.
