    2. Describe your race day.

Like always, REVEL came through with flying (running) colors again! I believe Big Bear offers a better route than Canyon City. The descend is not as steep and there's not a lot of switchbacks as Canyon City which makes it a lot less injury-inducing and, hence, enhances the runners' potential for a PR. Good venue choice, guys! The notifications and emails were all sent out very timely that nobody could have gotten lost in any possible way. The expo would have been more fun had it not been for the downpour the day before. Volunteers were in plenty supply and, may I commend, the finish line crew was efficient except that the name announcer butchered my name (not the easiest to pronounce by the way). The swag bag had a lot more useful items than most races I have participated in. Finally, the medals are awesome, as usual!! Love it!! See you next year!!

    3. Did you PR?

No, but I fared better than last year.

    4. How would you describe the course?

I believe Big Bear offers a better route than Canyon City. The descend is not as steep and there's not a lot of switchbacks as Canyon City which makes it a lot less injury-inducing and, hence, enhances the runners' potential for a PR. Great scenery to top it off- the clouds were below where the half-marathon starting point. Good venue choice, guys!

    5. Tell us about your training.

Our team actually trained in the downhill run at the Fontana Days run route on Sierra Ave. and on the former Revel Canyon City route in Azusa. It helped a lot to get your legs, knees, quads, shins and feet get used to the downgrade run.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Be prepared to wear layers- shed them as you go.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Took tons of pictures, cheered all the finishers as they crossed the finish line, took note of funny/interesting-looking/crazily-clad runners.

    2. Describe your race day.

Did the half and thankful for the cloud cover for the entire race. Beautiful course.

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes, PRd my half

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast and scenic. Not a lot of sloping. Definitely a PR course. Felt safe running on the road with an entire lane blocked off.

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

Wear layers since it’s cold at the start.

    6. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Traveled from Seattle. Will definitely repeat this race and consider the full marathon as well. This was my 4th Revel race this year and #5 will be at Mt Lemmon in Tucson.

    3. Did you PR?

      No

    4. How would you describe the course?

Super fast smooth and well organized

    5. Tell us about your training.

I was training for the full when I pulled my hamstring and it knocked me out of training for 8 weeks. Dropping to the half was my safest option. Mt. Charleston full in April!!!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Definitely run the course for training the weather for me was perfect. Strengthen your quads and lots of hills

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Took amazing pictures of my medal had some yummy treats. Had a couple of beers by my favorite local brewery and waited and watched all the friends BQ

    2. Describe your race day.

Very well organized, from parking, to shuttle, pre-race, course, and finish, everything went smooth!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes. Canyon City was at about 2:35, Big Bear came out to 2:12 both half marathons.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful scenery, the downgrade was gradual and not too steep. Elevation for the half was comfortable!

    5. Tell us about your training.

Train down and up hills to minimize any lingering hip pain after the race. Lots of stretches before and after also helped tremendously!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Weather was amazing. Not too cold and not too hot. Wear comfortable clothing.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I live close by so fun times were spent at home, eating pizza and watching tv.

    2. Describe your race day.

I met a woman from Finland who was on vacation here in CA. And always nice to talk with similar people as we laugh about what masochists we are. Lol

    3. Did you PR?

Yes. I did Canyon city half in 2016 and my time was 2:05. This year 2:04

    4. How would you describe the course?

      All down hill.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I used Hal Higdon half marathon training guide. It worked well. But I started 12 weeks in and would recommend the whole 16 week schedule

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Eat pasta day before for dinner and a light breakfast with coffee and toast the day of the race. Lots of water. Dress in layers that you can take off as you warm up. I wore a long sleeve shirt with race shirt over and a light jacket. And long yoga pants. All must be of the fabric that wicks away sweat. And a nice hat. Take water and Gatorade often on course.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Fontana CA

    2. Describe your race day.

Glad to have experienced my first ever half marathon with RevelRun. Not even once did they drop the ball. Service is 5 star, starting from the registration which is a breeze, clear communications, 24/7 customer service, and oh so organized event! Got an awesome swag bag, the running shirt and hats are of high quality too! Safety was a priority and there were plenty of staff and medics on patrol, water stations were available at almost every mile and it’s was just a great day overall to see people come together for a great purpose. Run revel it’s the best!

    3. Did you PR?

First timer so I didn’t really set a high goal other than to have fun and push through...for someone who had only run a 5K and getting winded, today I finished the half marathon under 3 hours which is an ultimate achievement for me. T

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course was great! Didn’t really have any problem with the altitude. Some paths were a full lane, and at times it was a little as a shoulder lane but no problems eitherway as the race was well marked.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Training downhill is important, I think first time runners mostly focus on endurance and distance and the Big Bear course was relatively hard on the legs. Though I didn’t train at any downhill path, I invested time on leg workouts that strengthened my thighs and I crossed the finish line today with a wicked hamstring cramp. Maybe if I if I spent time training downhill, i would’ve finished stronger.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

There are plenty of training plans online that you can download and self train yourself so I would take advantage of that. Also, invest on good running shoes with gait analysis. Very important.

    2. Describe your race day.

Today was so much fun! It was organized very well. All the volunteers and the bus driver were so positive and helpful. Most memorable thing about this race was hearing the creek running along side Highway 38 as we came down the first 5 miles of the half marathon. I really loved watching the fog and clouds along mountains in the first 5 to 6 miles of the half too. It truly was a beautiful Sunday morning. I also enjoyed hearing and watching the wild green parrots that flew over the Mentone area. They were a special treat for those of us who know the area.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes. I did PR, although I did not beat my personal goal PR. I missed my personal PR by 3 minutes. I really enjoyed my run this morning though. I was not trying to qualify for Boston.

    4. How would you describe the course?

This beautiful course being in my own backyard was very familiar to me. It was perfect weather and the clouds were spectacular this morning! I honestly could hear the creek along side Highway 38 during the first 4 miles. This was a special run for me because hiking in the mountains along Highway 38 is something I truly love to do and now saying that I have run through this area with a Revel run is a great memory too.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I actually did not train as well as I wanted to for this race. I do run this area regularly so I am use to the hills but I needed to train better for the distance in order to PR. I am happy though overall with my time on this run. Training DOWN HILL is important. I was cautious about not going too fast and over doing my pace (I had been warned). Having never run a down hill race I did stay remember the warnings.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Turn your earbuds down to enjoys what we can hear along this course!!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I enjoyed the expo even in the rain. I live very close to this event, we actually went to my daughter’s HS cross country event on Saturday and stopped by the expo on our way home. Since I live so close the bus ride was funny and enjoyable. Seeing and experiencing Forest Falls and Highway 38 as a runner was very memorable to me. Thank you for having this event so close to home. It was very well organized and a great day for a run!

    2. Describe your race day.

I paid for a shuttle I didn't have to use.
No specific address for transportation made it difficult to use gps.
Cars were allowed to get in the runner's lane 3.5 hrs after the race began. Even the ports Potty trucks were in and out of the lanes. For about a mile I had to whistle and yell at the runners in front of me to get on the shoulder because cars had gotten in out lane. There was no escort.
3/5 last miles barely had any space for runners. Car were passing very close and fast.
It would have been nice if hotels gave a little discount or allowed for late check out w/o a fee.

    3. Did you PR?

No, missed it by a few minutes. My Garmin recorded 26.7
Throughout the race our groups gps marked the miles before the course markers.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is clean, there is debris. Comfortable, with LOTS of portal potties. THANK YOU! The down hill is tough on the bladder.

    5. Tell us about your training.

This was a training run for an ultra, but we included down hill training to be sure we were ready.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Down hill training running posture (do not lean forward; stand "straight")is important to prevent shin splints.
      Hid rate days before.
      Expose yourself to higher altitudes

We went for dinner, but the restaurant was not aware of the event it took a loooong time to seat us down and 1 hrs to serve us; making us late to bed. Hotel was sold out w/runners and wondered why we were asking for a late check out. May be Chamber of Commerce and make an announcement on Newsletter.
