Describe your race day.
Watching the sun replace the moon through the tall trees on Mt Hood was spectacular. I started in the first wave. It was cool, but not freezing cold. That made for an awesome start! I trained well for the downhill so I was just sailing down the mountain. I watched Coach Paul's race strategy on FB live and followed his advise. It was perfect. I got my BQ!

Did you PR?
I qualified for Boston and I didn't have to push very hard at all so I am in a great place to recover a bit and start my train up for Chicago (my plan was to BQ at Hood and PR in Chicago) Mt Hood is a FAST course.

How would you describe the course?
The course was gorgeous! Most of it was shaded and cool. A few miles at the very end had some full sun, but I didn't feel uncomfortably warm (I'm also from Florida though) There are very few turns which I think is very good for maintaining a fast pace. The last 10k will feel more challenging likely causing a positive split.

Tell us about your training.
I live in Florida so I did my downhill training on a 3* decline treadmill and some bridge repeats. I use the Jack Daniels Running Formula and did my downhill training at marathon pace during my quality workouts. I did end up running significantly faster on the steeper parts of the course, but my legs and hips felt completely fine. (My peak run volume was 65 miles per week)

What advice would you give future runners?
I believe the key to my success in this race was training at faster paces, increasing my run volume (mostly easy pace miles) and getting longer (6-15 miles) downhill efforts regularly.

What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?
After the race I visited the Japanese Gardens And Rose Test Garden. Also saw the world's smallest park. I had the best dessert at Papa Haydn. I really wanted to get a picture in front of the "Keep Portland Weird" sign. Next time for sure!
Went down by the river in Downtown Portland for my shakeout run before the race and it was absolutely gorgeous!
