  1. Overall Rating

    5/5 Stars

  2. Describe your race day.

The beauty of the course is almost a distraction! Pre-race at the start was low key, which I appreciated as I was determined to PR that day. It was an early start but worth it to finish strong and have the rest of the day to enjoy Oregon's mountain lakes.

  3. Did you PR?

Yes! My goal was to get under 2 hours and I did. I finished 4 minutes faster than my previous PR. I even stopped to use the port-a-potty!

  4. How would you describe the course?

The course was gorgeous. Tall trees, lush with vegetation. At mile 7, 10, and 12? there were some decent inclines that were rewarded with downhills immediately after. I had no issue with the elevation.

  5. Tell us about your training.

I did not train any differently for this race than I do for others. I maintain a solid mileage base throughout the year with weekday miles ranging from 3-6 and weekend miles ranging from 5-12.

  6. What advice would you give future runners?

If coming with spectators, the early start and shuttling to the finish line is something to consider logistically.

  7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

My family (husband and 4 kids) drove from Duluth to Minneapolis to catch a late flight out on Wednesday night. We stayed with family in Portland (Foster/Powell neighborhood). On Thursday we went to Pacific City and hung out on the coast for the day. We even climbed the massive sand dune. Friday we took the kids to OMSI during the day. This is a must-do in Portland with kids. Then we relaxed in the evening with a movie. After the race on Saturday, we went out to Timothy Lake and swam. That night we dined at a local food truck pod. Sunday we ate lunch at a different food truck pod and went swimming at the Sellwood pool before taking the red-eye flight back to MSP.
