    2. Describe your race day.

This is truly one of the best organized races that I have ever done and I have done over 50 races. Great job Revel staff!!!

    3. Did you PR?

I did PR. I beat my last year's times by 11 minutes... Whoo hoo!!! I did not qualify for Boston. I ran the half.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is quick, rolly, and fun. There are plenty of well staffed aid stations. I didn't even need to carry water.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Be sure to do speed drills and hills.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Always get a room and spend the night even if you don't live that far. It just so restful to not have to worry about the travel time.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Ate!!! Lol

    2. Describe your race day.

Race day started out early and cold. Bus trip to the top took slightly over one hour. Comradity at the top while waiting for race to start was great; sharing past races, goals and future races. The best part of my day was coming in at the finish and knowing I had it my goal of a 9:20 pace overall my smile is evident on finishing photo.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes I PR great race had to pace first half to endure second half. I PR from 4:09:10 to 4:04:56. This pace qualifies me for Boston in 2017.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course was truly a downhill in the beginning very scenic and able to maintain a strong pace for first half once you hit the 13+ mile mark you start to have gains of 100+ ft. passed a lot of people on these hills.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Training for this year has been intense running 5 days per week with one cross training and one rest. Weekends ran back to back Saturday/Sunday. Advice to others is to not miss training, eat right, hydrate, and listen to your body.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train, good shoes and set reasonable expectations.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

This was a quick trip for us we drove the course day before race and headed back to San Diego after.

    2. Describe your race day.

Arrived early - maybe too early(?). There was a back up as the lot didn't appear to be open yet (4AM).

    3. Did you PR?

No; I'm recovering from a plantar injury.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast and beautiful. I ran the half; there were several challenging upgrades along the generally fast downgrades.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I consider myself a recreational runner. I run 3-4 miles two or three times a week. Several weeks before Canyon City, I ran up to 5-6 miles. The week of the race, I tapered down to 3.
The soreness from running downhill lasted several days. I will prepare next time by incorporating hills in my training.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Prepare for the hills. Dress warm for the start. Mylar blanket provided by the staff works great.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Pumpkin pie at the finish area--that was nice!

    2. Describe your race day.

We loaded onto the bus for the hour long ride to the start. There was a lot of nervous energy on the bus. Most people were dead quiet- my friend Nici and I chatted and giggled the whole way up! It was cold at the top! Thank you Revel for the gloves and blanket; I also had on some fleece pants and a jacket to check. I huddled
with my running buddies as we all waited nervously for the start. Speaking of nerves, there were plenty of porta potties(super important!) and water and Gatorade. The announcers kept us posted on race start details and even told us when to get our check bags on the truck. We lined up to start- I found my 3:45 goal pacer and got ready to run. The horn went off (the national anthem was missing?) and away we went. We started the descent down the mountain - I was moving at a much faster than anticipated pace. I pulled away from the 3:45 pacer and soon joined the 3:40 group. I had my music going with one earbud in and my friend Vickie to my left. We sang and danced and chatted through the first few miles which flew by! She ran this course last year and kept me in check , conserving energy for the second half. I pulled away from the 3:40 pacer and closed in on 3:35. I was at a pretty good pace at the half point and was well ahead of my goal pace. I kept going, enjoying the beautiful views, and appreciating the well placed aid stations for a couple of sips of water when I needed it. Miles 15-21were super hilly after hitting all of that downhill in the first half. My legs were tired but I kept pushing. As we descended into Azusa, I knew my goal pace was well within reach. When I hit mile 23 the calf cramps started. I could barely pick up my
feet but told myself to keep pressing on. As I hit mile 26 and made the right turn to head to the finish I began to cry- tears of joy and pain and exhaustion. I crossed the finish line at just over 3:39! That was an 18 minute marathon PR, a 16 BQ (I needed 3:55) and 6 minutes under goal pace! Thank you Revel for the epic day, the great views and the BQ!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes! I PRed my marathon time by 18 minutes! I qualified for Boston!!!

    4. How would you describe the course?

The scenery is gorgeous- I kept saying "wow" and " this is beautiful!" The downhill
Grade is a bit brutal but makes for some fast legs- the uphills feel like mountains after the downhill! My friends that have run Boston say this course is much more difficult.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I used Runner's World Smart Coach plan for training. I also teach 3 spin classes a week which I think make a huge difference! I think cross training is essential. I also think hill training is essential. I live in a hilly area where we have no choice but to run lots of hills- it paid off!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

We didn't stay at a host hotel but found a hotel close to the busses and finish line. It wasn't luxurious but it was clean and close. We dined at BJs in West Covina. There are lots of places to eat close to the venue. For the race I recommend throw away warm clothes or something you can check for the start area - it was cold! I recommend compression socks or sleeves during the race as your calves will love the extra support. Don't bring a brand new pair of shoes. Make sure your shoe has a good toe box area as your toes will hit the fronts of your shoes with the downhill. Enjoy the beauty and happy running.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We traveled from Temecula in the inland empire. We went to the expo to get our race packets, checked into our hotel and went to dinner. Early to bed to rest for the race!

    2. Describe your race day.

This was a great experience that I'll never forget. The sky was clear so the views from the top of the mountain were beautiful and it was relatively cool for a comfortable race. Although there was a lot of downhill running, there were also some challenging uphill segments which I loved. I would not describe this as an easy course. Fast but not easy. You really need to take advantage of the first half because the second half is going to challenge you.

    3. Did you PR?

Heck yeah! Boston Qualified! I qualified for the youngest age group which was 8 minutes under what I needed. I honestly never thought I'd BQ but REVEL helped me make it happen.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The first half is really fast with almost no uphill running at all. The second half is completely different. Be ready for some long uphill segments that will test your mental toughness. There's also a small uphill right at the very end that would be really easy if it was anywhere other than mile 26. The whole course is beautiful if you take the time to look around.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I only had a few weeks to train for this because previously I was focusing on a 70.3 in Tempe. I ran downhill on a 4 mile segment which had a total of a 600ft decline 5 days a week with one long run on the weekend that was actually the first half of this course. I wouldn't recomend such little training before a marathon but I didn't have a choice. I'd trained earlier in the year for the Ventura Marathon so I wasn't exactly starting from scratch but it wasn't ideal. I'd recomend running as many downhill runs as possible for the last 3-4 weeks leading up to this.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Take advantage of the first half and run downhill in your training. A lot of downhill in your training.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

It was only about a 30 minute drive from Ontario so I was able to drive back to BJs, put down a large victory pizza and a few IPAs.

    2. Describe your race day.

Early start with a slow bus ride up the highway to the start where it was quite cold and the complimentary gloves and mylar blankets were put to good use. Plenty of porta potties though and refreshments and great volunteers. Water stops were perfectly placed/spaced throughout the course with fantastic volunteers.

    3. Did you PR?

Set a Personal Record by nine minutes and qualified for Boston!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful course that is mostly downhill with a couple of inclines.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained six days a week with hill training, 800 repeats, easy runs, tempo runs, pace runs, and long runs with peak mileage a little over 50 miles per week.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Do some downhill runs that are similar to the first part of the course if possible. Try to take it easy for the first half and stay light on your feet as you will need the energy saved in the first half in the second half.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Relaxed before the race and enjoyed a great party atmosphere after the race with refreshments and live music.
