    2. Describe your race day.

Pacers were great, shout out to Jason! The 4:00 marathon pacer. Injured myself at mile 16 bc I didn't prepare for downhill running very well. So that's on me. Good hydration and aid stations, plenty of toilets.

    3. Did you PR?

I PRd my half marathon. 1:55!!! PRd by ~10 mins. Marathon I was 10 minutes slower (due to the injury)

    4. How would you describe the course?

beautiful, grade was quite steep needed to train more on that, elevation was fine

    5. Tell us about your training.

What training? Oops. Ran a marathon the February before and then 16 miles 6 weeks before the race and that's it.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      run downhill before the race

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      I live here.

    2. Describe your race day.

      Really great!

    3. Did you PR?

      Not this time.

    4. How would you describe the course?

I ran the half marathon. The course was great.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I had a minimum of training due to a strain issue that I needed to recover from. My longest training run was about 2 weeks before the half marathon and was 12 miles. So, I had a short taper. I had previous long runs of 8 to 10 miles with intervening shorter weekend runs. Nevertheless, I came in at 2:09 this year compared with my 2:05 for last year's event. I was happy with this given my training situation and the fact I was holding back.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Have a good training plan and follow the plan. Practice some long runs on longer hills. Do a mix of midweek training that incorporates interval training, tempo runs, and hill repeats. Have enough longer runs for distance to build your base. Have a good taper afterward going into the race. Say, 3 weeks but not less than 2 weeks. Also, plan for the weather.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Watched other runners come in and looked for friends. Enjoyed the finish line festival. I did not go to the beer garden because all they had was Miller Lite beer, which I don't really like.

    2. Describe your race day.

It was a wonderful experience. I pride myself on being a negative splits runner but I couldn't do it at Canyon City as hard as I tried to hold back the first half. But I am still very proud of my finish. I was so spent at the end that all I could do was sit on the curb and have a little cry. Once that was over I was able to enjoy the after glow of my accomplishment. Your event was very organized and the extras are amazing.

    3. Did you PR?

No I did not . My goal was not to race. I have another marathon in 3 weeks so I was using it as a training run

    4. How would you describe the course?

Hard. All fun and games the first half :) hard work begins the second half. Beautiful course. Great aid stations. Know your going to hurt so dig deep.

    5. Tell us about your training.

We put in the miles for our long runs. Did weekly hill, goal pace and interval runs. Tried to run some long down hills but very hard to train your body to run down hill for 14 miles so you know your body is going to take a beating.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Do a better job than I did at finding a down hill mountain road to train on. We stayed at your host hotel( Marriott) the service as awesome. We drove down Friday from Northern California and left on Sunday. Since we knew the temp was going to be warn I would suggest staring out in a tank and shorts . We warmed up with in the first mile. The gloves were perfect. Kept them on for the first 4 miles or so. Thank you.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We had dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant down in old town and after dinner on Friday night we stopped at a crafts fair in one of your local parks and enjoyed some music and the beautiful warm Southern California evening. We live in Folsom Calif

I think the only thing I would add would be the National Anthem at the start and to have the pace car and the drop bag truck on the other side of the start line :)

    2. Describe your race day.

this was a great day at 49 I finished my 2nd marathon and both in the same year ... grateful that I could do it ... the bus ride up took a bit but gave a good idea of the course ... well worth staying awake and seeing everything in the dark and than again in the light on the way down ...

    3. Did you PR?

yes ... even as slow as I ended up being I finished more than 20 minutes ahead of my last (first ever) race

    4. How would you describe the course?

challenging ... the first seven or eight miles are super fast ... I did my 1st 7 miles in 1 hour 1 minutes ... did well until the uphills kicked in and my calves tightened up like crazy and made me almost cry ... I liked the course

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained local but not on such a steep course nor uphills .. now I know better for next year and will do some of my training on the actual course ... especially from the halfway mark to the finish

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

try to train on some fast down hills ... figure out how to keep a better pace down hill ... and also train on uphills ... some are long and steady .. some are a bit steeper ...

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I live local so nothing special

    2. Describe your race day.

Bus ride took about an hour and a half, starting area was great, the run was great. Traffic control on the mountain could be better. There were a couple times we had cars in the left lane where we were running because cars were coming up the other way.

    3. Did you PR?

No, I was about 25 min from a PR. I went out too fast and wound up burning out my legs.

    4. How would you describe the course?

      Gorgeous.

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

      TRAIN ON HILLS.

    2. Describe your race day.

Great organization overall, it was a warm day though, wish you had added a few more water stops and that fruit would have been better stocked some of the runners in the back got nothing...

Would be great if the water stops were a bit more organized. It was hard to tell coming into the stops who had water and who had electrolytes, sometimes water was first sometimes it was second and they used the same cups... a sign or consistency would help a lot

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes

    4. How would you describe the course?

First half was amazing, the second half was much more rolling than downhill

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

Be prepared for rolling hills on the second half

    2. Describe your race day.

It was awesome! The volunteers at the expo and race were wonderful. I really appreciated the space blanket and gloves we received and love the beanie! The course was just the right balance of downhill and uphill. I was very pleased with the course and the finish line goodies were awesome. Loved the pie and Aloe Water. Also, I REALLY loved the cold wet wash cloths at the end. This race had a lot of great perks!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes! I PR'd by almost 6 minutes! This is a fast and fun confidence boosting course!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast and the perfect balance between downhill and uphill. The last 2 .5 flat miles were SO tough after all that hill work. The grade was pretty steep at some parts, but not too long to kill you. The uphill provided some relief from the steep downhill parts. The scenery was great!

    5. Tell us about your training.

It's tough to find downhill training courses that can simulate this race. I did a little bit of downhill repeats training, but mostly I focused on practicing my downhill form during all of my runs that had any kind of downhill. I also focused on strengthening my quads and hamstring areas with weight and resistant training. Hill training of both types was good preparation for this race. Also I learned to maintain an equal effort level between uphill and downhill running, and worked on running at a speed that I might reach on a long downhill for a fair amount of time.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Know the course and run hills. It helped to study the course map so I knew when how long the uphills and downhills were going to last.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I traveled from San Diego. I stayed at the holiday inn in West Covina and there were a lot of restaurants and stores within walking distance. I picked up some last minute food for breakfast at the Target just a few blocks away. I think the short walk helped calm some of my nerves.
