    2. Describe your race day.

It was a great day! Beautiful course, very well-run and organized. Oh and I really appreciated the nice buses! So much more comfortable and easier to catch a little more rest than on a school bus. Thank you!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes - both a PR (by just over 2 minutes) and a BQ.

    4. How would you describe the course?

It's not easy that's for sure! After fairly steep downhills for the 1st half, the up and down of the second half is very challenging. And the slight incline at the finish just about did me in! But it is beautiful and someday when CA finally gets some rain...it will be incredible.

    5. Tell us about your training.

My advice is to train on hills with tired legs. Long runs aren't enough to prepare for this course. Hills are a must.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Take advantage of the bag check. It's chilly at the start even on a warm day like today. And the race organizers do an excellent job with the bag drop and pick up to make it as easy as possible.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Dinner and a movie in the old town area of Monrovia. We live in Ventura County so it was nice to stay nearby and not have a long drive with such an early morning.

Just one more thought...in the future on warmer days I would recommend adding a couple of additional water stations, particularly in the last 8-10 miles if possible.

    2. Describe your race day.

Had a great race, as always you guys put on the best events. Transport was top notch and it is always good to see a race start on time.

    3. Did you PR?

No, had a shoe / sock / blister issue, but still had a fantastic time. My wife and I were running this one just for fun, but are planning to PR on the Mt. Charleston course next year, we are already signed up...

    4. How would you describe the course?

Great course with varying degrees of downhill. Some areas of prolonged uphill, but none of it was too steep. Great start and finish locations in teriffic proximity to the parking lot.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Lately we have been been running marathons and 50k races monthly. We also do long runs in between along with cross training to keep the spare tire off of my waist. By the way, loved the pizza and pie at the finish.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Do not try any new equipment before a long run and make sure your shoes are relatively new. The downhill running is of greater impact and you will need all the fresh cushioning in your shoes that you can get.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We drove up the morning of at 3:00 AM from San Diego and headed straight home afterwards. Made sure to get the pie and pizza first though...

Two complaints. First, both my wife and I are legacy runners, but only my bib reflected this. She was sort of bummed about it because we save all of our bibs and there was nothing I could do to fix it for her. Her name is Dana Ryan, can you please be sure that she gets recognized as a legacy runner next year? We have both run all three of the Canyon City races and she should have had the legacy bib as well.
Second, your GPS was right on up until the point where the marathon course meets the half marathon start. Somewhere at that area an extra 0.10 to 0.15 miles are added and if followed that way all the way to the finish. You may wish to double check your course marking. Otherwise, the race was perfect! Blister and all.
      Thanks,

    2. Describe your race day.

On my race day, I arrived at 20 minutes before five. The busses were already there picking up people to take them to Crystal Lake, which I didn't get a chance to see. Overall it was planned well and on time. Beautiful setting by the way

    3. Did you PR?

My PR tiime is 3:53 and my required time is 4:00. I believe I BQ-ed this time.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is downhill mostly however there are a few slopes. Overall the course provides beautiful sceneries.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I have been training on my own and presently I'm training with Los Angeles Road Runners. I also love running trails on Sundays when I'm not training with LARR.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Include running on hills for this marathon. That will make running on slopes easier.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I congratulated some of my friends and took pics by the landscape backdrops you provided. Then I went home.

    2. Describe your race day.

I enjoyed the scenery. This was a recovery run for me so I took it nice and easy, that made this even a better experience.

    3. How would you describe the course?

Scenic. Well supported. Side grade hard on feet

    4. Tell us about your training.

I ran a trail marathon last week. I ran Revel to maintain my my legacy status. I typically run 30 to 50 miles a week. Last year I concentrated on downhill training.

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

Practice downhill running. Start off slow, bank energy, not minutes

    2. Describe your race day.

One of the toughest races for me ... the scenery was amazing but I seriously underestimated the downhill impact on my body. I feel more beat up today than after any other race.

    3. Did you PR?

No, unfortunately ... was really hoping for one based on the reviews but the downhill impact caused major issues for me.

    4. How would you describe the course?

It's absolutely beautiful but for me, I don't think I would do a full marathon again with that intense downhill grade ... maybe the half!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I was solid on training as far as pace work and long runs but clearly I did NOT do enough downhill training. I've ran 12 marathons and this felt the toughest as far as body impact ... hips, lower back, and quads all need more focus should I do a downhill course again.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Race organization was great ... communication was awesome and it's a beautiful course BUT make sure you do significant downhill training and strengthen those quads for this type of grade.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Just warmed up and tried to stay calm ... traveled from Texas

      Amazing.

    3. Did you PR?

No BQ :-( But set New PR by 4mins :-)

    4. How would you describe the course?

      Beatiful

    5. Tell us about your training.

Could of trained harder. Seriously trained hard for about 2-3 weeks out. But kept working out other times. Advise I can give train at least 3 months before race day consistently. What help today were the uphills. Make time to at least do trail runs atleast once a week.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Advise I can give others. The 1st step is getting out out and make a commitment to your self. Believe in yourself that you can do it.
      The pain is temporary
      MARATHON
      The pride is forever

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

After race just enjoying the glory how runners excited on finishing the marathon

    2. Describe your race day.

The race day started well and ended well. The weather was almost perfect with cool temps and overcast skies. This was my third time running this race and it has gotten better each time. I think the City of Azuza does a great job on every aspect of the race from registration to post race activities. The volunteers were special in their dedication to being helpful and friendly. The breath taking scenery running through the canyons was special. I'll definitely keep this race on my schedule for next year. One additional comment: the security personnel provided a sense of safety that added to the race being special.

    3. Did you PR?

I did not PR, but was using this a training run.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is fast, well marked, and beautiful.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I run regularly throughout the year and did not specifically train for this race. However, I do run on the local mountain trails a couple of times a week .

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Learn how to run downhill and prepare for intermittent uphill inclines. Learning how to transition to run in the mountains takes practice. Take shorter quicker steps going uphill, open up your side on the flats, and let gravity pull you down the hills.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Before the race, I interacted with other runners, took pictures, and hydrated. After the race, I interacted with other runners, enjoyed great snacks, hydrated, took pictures, and talked with a couple of security personnel. Great experience and one of the best this year!
