    2. Describe your race day.

I was there with the So Cal Moms Run This Town team. It was wonderful to see so many (183) of my teammates on the course and at the finish line. I love the special touches that this race adds. The signs to alert you that there's a photographer ahead. The energy of the volunteers at the many water stops. The easy to see mile markers. The ease of gear pick up. The instant print out of my results. PIE!!

    3. Did you PR?

      I did not PR.

    4. How would you describe the course?

I did the half marathon. It's a roller coaster with uphills, downhills and the road leans left then right. It is a very scenic course.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I made the mistake of not looking at the course and listened to the hype of this being a fast downhill. That's true for the first part of the full marathon, but not so much for second part which is the half marathon. I was training for downhill running, next year I will incorporate a lot more uphill.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

It's COLD at the start line. Wear arm warmers. Some girls cut the feet out of wool socks and used those then tossed them on the course. I might even suggest doing the same over your shoes & taking them off before you start running. We stayed at Best Western Route 66 in Glendora, 7 minutes to the shuttles.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

we're locals, only an hour away, just spent the night to get an extra hour of sleep.

It would be nice to have more options for this race i.e.: a relay, or run the top 13.1 or bottom 13.1

    2. Describe your race day.

Wow what a race!! Very early start (esp as I came in from Australia for the race - well I did have work close by too). But could quickly and easily pick up by race package on the morning with lots of people giving me directions to where I needed to be. On board the bus quick smart and slowly made our way up the mountain - laughing as the bus in front of us constantly took out cones marking the middle of the road. Very cold at the top but exactly how you want it to be for a marathon. Beautiful views on a spectacularly clear day, running with a whole bunch of super nice people. It all made for a great race. I will be back (if I can get work to take me over again)

    3. Did you PR?

Yes 13 minute PR but could have gone faster if I had trained on hills more.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Super fast and stunning views. Very quiet (like running trail marathons) but good support at the end when you need it..

    5. Tell us about your training.

I live in a mainly flat place and so did close to zero downhill training. Oopps

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Do downhill training (I cannot walk 2 days later). Also, don't smash the first half (I know it will be tempting) as there are hills in the second half and I paid dearly as a result!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Took some great photos and almost tempted to have a beer but no.

    2. Describe your race day.

Best part of the race was the gorgeous downhill first half.

    3. Did you PR?

No, I'm to old to set another PR. But I did qualify for Boston.

    4. How would you describe the course?

1st half is steep and tears you up. When you get to half way the 3 miles of uphills finish you off.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I just ran the Chicago marathon on October 10th. I was in injured from march through August but have always run a lot. I'm a member of a running club and usually run 8 to 11 miles about 4 days a week. I had a few long runs this fall but none on downhill slopes.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train for the downhills. Keep your stride short on the downhills and don't get sucked in by the crazy people flying downhill and striking every step hard. The uphills after half way will be waiting for your sore legs. Bring plenty of warm winter gear to wear before the race.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Shared a fire with the pacers. Had 2 beers just before the beer ran out.

Do not use plastic cups. Paper cups can be folded with a crease making to easier to drink and run. plastic cups crack. Always have Gatorade 1st and water 2nd at the water stops or vice versa. It makes it easier for the runners. Fill the cups more. Most of the stops had just 1 inch of water in the cup. Set up more warming stations at the start (propane heaters, fires, tents). The gear check is not secure. Make sure runners know that. Anyone could walk off with a bag that could contain a wallet or cell phone. The band should have played longer. They were tearing down and runners were still finishing. The beer ran out. Plan to stock more next time. Otherwise it was the most gorgeous marathon I've run. Next time I'll have two cups of water at every stop. Larger marathons have water every mile. Every two miles is OK but maybe the cups should be bigger. I love the free picture. That is a nice perk no one else does.

    2. Describe your race day.

Course was beautiful. Mile markers were accurate. Stations were loaded with energy and sufficient bathrooms and gu and drinks. (no candy as promised though... that was very disappointing).

    3. Did you PR?

Yep! 2:01 for my half marathon time (PR'd by about 7 minutes) and 4:23 for my marathon. PR because it was my first marathon!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful, fairly steep at the beginning. UPHILLs between mile 14-21, Mile 20 is about a mile long hill of maybe 4-5% grade (gradual but still killer!). The last stretch of flat/slight uphill was horrible (mile 24-26.2) but very rewarding. Overall beautiful. I have no other marathons to compare it to but it was lovely.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Didn't train very much. Started training about 8 weeks before the race. Did a 13 miler, a 16 miler and a 14 miler and called it a day. Ran about 26 miles a week. Should have probably trained more.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Not sure if I'm ready to give advice. Still learning and looking for advice myself.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Before the race we had a camp fire blaring at the top of the mountain. It was awesome. I live in the area though so nothing exciting or out of the ordinary for me - I slept and ate haha.

    2. Describe your race day.

Great day! Great organization and race perks! Thanks for making everything so easy - website, race info, expo, blankets and gloves for start line, plentiful hydration stations, volunteers were great, course safety, etc! Only suggestions would be - better signs for parking on race day and definitely make sure the bus drivers are prepared to drive racers safely up the mountain! Our driver went the wrong way and then was very sketchy on the way up - taking out cones and driving too fast!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, I beat my previous marathon time by 10 minutes!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Such a beautiful and serene course! It's a very unique experience running a race with no spectators. The first 13 miles are smooth downhill but BEWARE of the hills between miles 13-20. Those were very tough! The last 3 miles are long, flat, straight-aways that test to see how much you have left in the tank. Finish chute is awesome!

    5. Tell us about your training.

Had a great three months of training with friends from the CA Cruisers 642 Club! We did hills in Yorba Linda and Chino Hills, flat in Huntington Beach, and ran the Glendora Mountain Road/Ridge several times. The training on GMR definitely paid off on race day!

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train for the downhill, for sure! But also do some hill work to get ready for miles 13-20 that are not included in the "smooth downhill" section of the brochure.

    2. Describe your race day.

All the "potato" wrapped people at the start- and the amazing quiet scenerey on the way down. It was highly organized and fun.

    3. Did you PR?

      This was my first half.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The calmness was amazing, and the first 10 were cooler than the wjen we left canyon.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained for 4 months, mostly on slight downhills. I really need to figure out how to get my time down.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Staying close by helps because the bus times are so early.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We came from about 50 minutes away.

I love that the calm mountain part was closed to people . I did not know that cars would still be hoing through. That was a kind if bummer..car and bus noises and fumes.

    2. Describe your race day.

The expo was easy and well-organized. The pick-up was really no sweat. The next morning couldn't have gone more smoothly for me and the two runners traveling with me. We stayed about 15 minutes away (in some no-name place in Claremont) and drove to the bus area the morning of the race. We were directly exactly to a parking spot and had to walk only about 200 meters to the buses. We got right on at about 4:45am and off we went to the top of the mountain. The bus was comfortable and the ride went smoothly.

When we arrived at the top, there were plenty of port-o-potties and lines weren't very long at all. We didn't have too long to wait and the race started right on time. We had drop-bags to place our gear in and we just tossed them all into a Penske rental truck to be hauled to the finish line.

The race started right on time and off we went!

The finish line amenities were fantastic! They hook you up with a medal right away, water bottles, bagels, pie, bananas, wet towel, energy drinks, etc.

As you walk up to the section to pick up your drop-bag, a kid sees you coming, finds your bag, and delivers it to you before you even get to the area! Sounds funny, but at that point, every extra step comes at a price and it was much appreciated!

Revel does their races right! Could NOT have had a better time! DO THIS RACE!

    3. Did you PR?

I hit my goal of a sub 3 hr (2hr 59 min 32 sec)... my previous PR was from Revel Big Cottonwood (3hr 5 min 43 sec). This is a great race to hit your PR!

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course started off at a nice easy downhill and continued that way for a couple of miles. We had a short uphill that we hit about 2-3 miles in (a little out and back section), but it wasn't bad and was sandwiched in the middle of the downhill section near the beginning which made making up the time a piece of cake.

The course was awesome! The first 14 miles or so were fast flying, for sure! There were about three hills after that (if I remember correctly) placed between miles 14-20. They are tough... mostly because of where they are in the race than their actual length or grade. You just have to decide to buckle down and DO NOT WALK!!! Even if you just shuffle along! It seemed as though each hill ended just around the bend (even though you couldn't see it from the bottom) and was followed by at least somewhat of a reprieve (downhill of some sort).

The final 1/2 mile prior to the final .2 homestretch seemed like it was a slight incline. A slight incline at mile 25.5 can be enough to stab you in the heart... but it is doable!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained for 18 weeks. I did a total of 600 training miles. Longest training run was 22 miles. Never did reach 50 miles in a any one week (not a high mileage runner).

    6. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Traveled from San Diego.

    2. Describe your race day.

Since it was my first year doing this run, I was very nervous all the way to start time. Once the run got going I was back in my element and having fun! I was loving all the signs that were placed throughout the course - kept me entertained!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes I did!! Was able to knock off about 30 seconds from my previous best - I know I could have gotten in faster, but being new to the course I wanted to play it somewhat safe.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Chilly at first but after a couple miles my body was warming up. Lots of downhill with a few hills that felt a little more than just "rolling"

    5. Tell us about your training.

Coming off of a recent half-marathon I just added on some extra hill training, and did a lot of rest prior to race time.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Run the hills! It will get your legs prepped for it - and work on the downhill running to keep you from braking too much.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Mainly rested - but after that I ate and ate and ate...did I mention I ate??
