    2016 REVEL Rockies Half Marathon

    2. Describe your race day.

The race was so well organized and smooth that my morning was quite pleasant for being so early. I enjoyed the course and the signs Revel put out along the way were great! I felt every potential need was anticipated and that made the race that much more enjoyable. I had forgotten to put my headphones in my bag and then forgot to take my inhaler (!) before putting my bag in the trailer- both of which made me a little upset at the start. I ended up being fine on both accounts and actually enjoyed running without my headphones as the scenery was so pleasant.

    3. Did you PR?

It was my first half marathon, but I was able to run it quite a bit faster than I had been running in training. According to my app (Strava) I set a PR in 1 mile, 2 mile, 5K, 10K, 15K & 10 miles so I would say yes :)

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful and serene. It was hard to get bored in such a great place. It helped that the weather was overcast and perfect! A great course for my first race. I'm very sore though and can tell that the downhill worked different muscles than I used during training.

    5. Tell us about your training.

This was my first time training for a race so part of it was just spent figuring things out. I think the only thing I would change is training more on pavement. I trained mostly on trails in parks, but would maybe pick a couple of runs to do on paved roads to see how it felt.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I live in Denver so getting to the course was pretty easy, but I would say for those traveling to do this race to stay close by Morrison. It's an early morning and very dark trying to navigate getting to the shuttles so the closer they are the better I imagine getting there would be.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I'm a local so we didn't hang out much after the race.

    2. Describe your race day.

Very well organized! I used the Hampton Inn (on Union) accommodations which gave us breakfast and direct to start busing. The shuttle was there to take us back to the hotel after the race as well. Good beer choice - Dry Dock Apricot is one of my faves!

    3. Did you PR?

I was not attempting to qualify - just a fun run with a friend!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Great scenery! Not completely a downhill course like some of the other locations.

    5. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Drove up from Colorado Springs the night before.

Prepare for downhills and coast to your finish!

Enjoyed Evergreen! I live in Fort Collins but had not been to El Rancho since they renovated-great place!

    2. Describe your race day.

The pre race experience was very good: the bus ride was smooth and efficient, ports potty lines were short, the space blankets and gloves kept me warm and ready to go. I liked the separation of water and Gatorade at the aid stations being consistent at every one, so I knew where to get what I needed. The finish line was nice and the people were helpful. Great job with this production. I got a PR so that was a bonus. Not likely to see many more of those at 54 years old.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, by 3:24 and I BQ -31:46 for Boston 2017.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Excellent view of the tall mountains and remnant snow banks in the forest at the start. I appreciated the nice downhill grade and pleasant forest and streams on the way down.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I did lots of speed work and rolling hill runs. I felt that improving my leg turnover was important for this race.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Be well prepared to run hard to take advantage of the excellent downhill grade.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

The brewery tours were fun. Traveled from New Mexico.

    2. Describe your race day.

Great race. It is VERY downhill. I am a strong downhill runner and I was surprised by the toll it took on my calves. Worth the speed you gain, though. Really well organized. Beautiful course. The last few miles were a great place to make up time as the course does not flatten out until the last 0.1 miles.

    3. Did you PR?

No. But I wasn't in PR shape and I had my 2nd fastest half marathon. I would easily call this the fastest course I have ever run.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fast. First 2 miles have some rolling hills, then it screams downhill.

    5. Tell us about your training.

      Nothing special.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I have advice for the race director. The cups you used are not able to be pinched to drink out of. That makes it impossible to drink on the fly. If the upside is that they are compostable, I can understand the justification, but otherwise, get paper cups that can fold.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      I am local from Boulder.
