    2016 REVEL Rockies Half Marathon

    2. Describe your race day.

I was just thinking that this is my 6th Revel race. My mind went back to Revel Rockies Inaugural in 2014. I PR'd big time, like by 7+ minutes. I remembered why Revel Rockies is special to me even though it is not my favorite in the Revel Series. Because it's where I ran my best in a 1/2 ever and felt good doing it. Good energy level throughout the race. I remembered the mess up with the busses in 2015, but that memory quickly faded when I saw all of those buses upon arrival this morning. I remembered how Revel stepped up to the plate and made a wrong (that wasn't their fault) a right. Top notch redepmption! Revel should really good about that.

    3. Did you PR?

I PR'd in Revel Rockies by 2:00 minutes compared to inaugural year, but my other Revel Races, specifically Canyon City and Mt. Charleston are my favorites and my best run times. Mt. Charleston finish was 1:37:11 in May 2016. Canyon City was 1:38:58. Altitude got to me today. Funny, because I live in Denver. But I was winded and had trouble breathing for much of the race.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful and Scenic. Revel Rockies and Canyon City are by far the prettiest to me. The grade today in Revel Rockies seem to have more hills in the beginning. I don't remember all of those hills in 2014. Elevation was a little steep too, but it's Colorado. Not much one can do about that.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained 3 to 4 times per week. Training apps and such recommended much more, but I can only do 4 days max. I taper earlier than some runners. I just came off of Ragnar Relay Snowmass, so I wasn't in any shape to train this week. Training advice: Revel series is deemed as easy by many, but it is not for the faint for sure. I would tell new runners to train for downhill running just as you need to train for uphill running. The thing I would do differently is to stick to my training plan more. Hydration and proper diet help as well.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Take your training seriously. Try not to skip too many sessions because you'll never make them up no matter how hard you try. Make sure you cross train and invest in good running shoes. Your training effort will contribute greatly to your performance during race time.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

None this year. I was too tired. I didn't travel far. I live in Denver.

Unbelievable weather and amazing views, spectacular

    3. Did you PR?

Well.... I ran with my amazing girlfriend and didn't go for my best time but we ran a 8:22 mile half so that was great and so proud of her!!!

    4. How would you describe the course?

      F•••••• amazing

    5. Tell us about your training.

I'm not a runner just run every once and awhile I guess

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

This is an amazing trail-race whatever you wanna call it. Just make sure you know how to run downhill it's easy and awesome
But if you don't have good posture you will pay for it afterwards

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Red rocks country club!!!

    2. Describe your race day.

Perfect running weather, amazing downhill course, & great volunteers & officers helping us along the way! Couldn't ask for a better marathon experience!

    3. Did you PR?

Achieved PR by 2min34sec which got me a better BQ!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fantastic scenery, especially when we ran alongside a creek for a few miles! Amazing downhills that really helped me pick up speed, particularly at the end! Was worried about the elevation, but barely felt any effects!

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

Got a huge blister on the bottom of my foot, probably because I like to wear my shoes a little loose--not recommended on a largely downhill course!

    6. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Came in from DC for this race & had some energy-conserving fun in downtown Denver. Tried out an escape room for the 1st time. Failed, but it was still fun!

    2. Describe your race day.

The course was majestic, I felt really lucky in life to be running in such a beautiful place. The aid stations were spaced out perfectly, and the volunteers were the best! Definitely felt a runners high from start to finish

    3. Did you PR?

YES on PR, by 00:11:25. I already had a qualifying time for Boston, but would not had made the cut off of 2mins 28secs faster than the qualifying time. But today with Revel Rockies, I am 12mins faster than the qualifying time, yes yes yes yes!!!!!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Scenery- superb, my favorite. Grade- superb. Elevation- cool, no issues with this. Truly beautiful course that made me feel so lucky to do this in life.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Was training meticulously (45-50 miles per week) from early Jan to April, then I was burned out a bit. Since May, training has been less but kept running (20 miles per week). Completing the long runs helped a lot. Only lately started focusing on speed training, it makes a difference. My advice would be 'train (just do it, whatever works for you) and keep health with good food and rest'.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Have fun and enjoy the scenery. Smile, it's contagious and it also makes you feel lighter. Push hard when you are tired.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Rockies game. Public pool. Visit family.

    2. Describe your race day.

Beautiful course. Great post-race party and location. Well-organized.

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes! I PR'd by 5 minutes

    4. How would you describe the course?

Simply, it was fast and beautiful. Seeing a family of mule deer walk right up to the road was a definite highlight. I loved all the signs along the course.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I only ran about 3x per week. I need to vary my daily training more and not just focus on the long runs. But even with my lazy way of training, i felt good and had fun.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Its cooler at the start so bring extra layers. I shed them at the start and warmup very quickly. Dont take it too seriously- its not like you're doing rocket surgery :)

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Im from denver so i went to a favorite-- ale house ar amattos. Great beer, beautiful rooftop.

    2. Describe your race day.

We weren't sure how the day was going to go, it was a very early morning. We got up about 3AM to get ready/board our bus. No issues parking or boarding our bus. Start of race smooth. Lots of great volunteers cheering. Lots of photos being taken. Course was gorgeous, after party was great. Loved it! Our bus back to the parking lot was held up by traffic, but we just walked about a mile to the car. No big deal. People who didn't want to walk obviously had the option to just wait on a bus. Not much you can do to help that! :) Had a great time. Very well organized! Great job! Thank you so much!

    3. Did you PR?

I did PR, but it was my first half marathon :) Seemed like it flew by! Fast course

    4. How would you describe the course?

      Absolutely beautiful

    5. Tell us about your training.

I probably could have done more hill training. I ran 13 miles a couple of weeks prior to the race to "prove to myself that I could do it" so race day wasn't so intimidating.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

I was surprised at packet pick up that there were gloves and the blanket in the packets. I took my blanket to the waiting area before the race. I had only a tank and shorts. I didn't suspect I would need it, but I was so glad to have it!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Came in Saturday from Longmont,CO. Stayed at the Golden Hampton Inn. We ate at an Italian restaurant called Abrusci's in Wheat Ridge (only 10 or so minutes from our hotel). Went to bed about 8PM (due to the early bus loading). After the race, we enjoyed a brew in the beer tent and then walked to our car & went to Woody's Pizza in Golden. Downtown Golden was really cute, lots of restaurant options!

    2. Describe your race day.

I loved the course and all the volunteers were amazing! I had all the info I needed before I even knew what questions to ask

    3. Did you PR?

Yes! But it was my first marathon so I don't know if that counts

    4. How would you describe the course?

I loved the whole course! The grade helped with speed even though it ended up making things painful in the end; however, that is just what the race info said

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained going both up and down hills per the race info suggestions. I would recommend one try and do their long training runs on a downhill grade similar to the race grade once they work up to it

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Train goin down hills

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Danced to the music both before and after the race

    2. Describe your race day.

The scenery was beautiful. I loved listening to the river flowing the entire time. I also thought the bluegrass band at the end of the race was a lovely touch.

    3. Did you PR?

      No

    4. How would you describe the course?

More uphill than i anticipated, but beautiful. I was worried that on the downhills the grade would bother my knees but it was very gentle.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Was injured so not enough. Also would have run more uphill had I known that there were a lot of inclines.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Read up on downhill running. Many people were hurting because they tried to put on the brakes and fight gravity.

This race was very well supported considering how small the field of runners was. I would have loved to have had a trainer at the starting line to tape, etc...The ability to buy beer for friends who came to the finish to watch would have been nice.
