    2. Describe your race day.

Drove down from Ventura County Friday afternoon. Took 3 hours to get to the expo. Hit a lot of traffic on the 210. Expo was small. Packet pick up was a breeze & very well organized. My bestie, who also ran Canyon City, drove up Friday evening from San Diego. We stayed at Embassy Suites Arcadia/Pasadena (15 minute drive from shuttle bus areas). On race morning we drove to the shuttle areas with plenty of time to spare but the lines to the parking lots were backed up several blocks. We parked half a mile away and walked. Line onto the bus moved pretty quickly. From there it was a smooth and warm (bus was heated) 40 minute ride up to the start line. It was freezing once we got off the bus!! Not sure what the exact temps were but it felt like 40 degrees. Bring the gloves and space blanket (included in your race packet)! Race started right on time. Course was very beautiful, fast, not congested, & well supported. I really loved the finish line festivities and the medal was HUGE! Representing team MRTT was a bonus.

    3. Did you PR?

No PR for me but many of my friends did! I didn't train for this race as I should have. But Canyon City is definitely a great choice for PR/BQ race.

    4. How would you describe the course?

No doubt one of the most BEAUTIFUL courses I have run! Fast too if PRing or BQing was your goal. Support was excellent. Finish was awesome. Good size race. Not too huge of a field.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I honestly didn't train much for this race. Yosemite Half a month ago was my last run.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Don't be deceived by the "down hill" course elevation map. The first few miles are rolling hills so run some hills. Doing so will get you more than ready to tackle this course. Also, dress in layers! It was really cold at the start. Don't forget to bring the gloves & space blanket with you. If you run with music like I do, get your playlist ready. (There is no reception until around mile 10).

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

After the race and checking out of our hotel, we spent the afternoon in Old Town Pasadena. I drove back home Sat evening.

Train downhill and hill training at least once per month

    2. Describe your race day.

Loved seeing everyone in the silver thermal sheets at the start. Saw my pace group take off and leave me in the dust. Then went flying past them 2 miles from the finish. Finished 3 minutes ahead of them. Yay. Fun time at the finish. Enjoyed the Marie Calendar's pie, got some photos, and found easily found my car. Great day.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, by 1.5 minutes. Also, took 3.5 minuets off last year's Revel Canyon City half.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Love this course! Even like the change near the end which was different from last year. The grade for the half was quite nice. Never felt like I was destroying my legs. Enjoyed the scenery.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I'm basically following the LA Roadrunner's marathon training plan - except, I have been running hills too. The hill training definitely helped.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      My tips:
Bring sweat pants and shirt to the start - and an extra jacket and the provided gloves. The gear check is super convenient and close to the start. You can basically wait until 5 or 10 minutes from the start to store your gear. Short sleeve shirt and shorts are adequate once you start running (first mile will be a little cold). Don't obsess on your pace. There is a fair amount of uphill, so watch your heart rate. On the downhill parts, don't be afraid that you are gong too fast (as long as your heart rate is low enough, you will be fine).

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Unfortunately, this year I had another commitment, so I was just in and out - back to Sunland.

    2. Describe your race day.

The organizers were ready for the no. of the participants that were there. The bag was complete with the mylar blanket and the gloves which were really helpful before the start of the run since it was chilly. There were enough water stations and porta potties. Thank you for all the law enforcers that kept the traffic controlled on the race day.

    3. Did you PR?

I did from the last half that I did. It was 2:50 from the last time, now it's 2: 38...Yey! I'm happy even if I didn't qualify for Boston Mar....

    4. How would you describe the course?

The first 6miles was downhill, then flat then downhill again .....I love the course!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I underestimated the race meaning I didn't train as hard since I felt like I didn't have to. I should really work hard more and not take things for granted even if it's downhill.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Consistency is key to training.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Post race lunch at the Guppy house and bread shopping at 85 degrees!
We came from San Fernando Valley and are planning to do it again next year!
It was a happy and pleasant experience....

    2. Describe your race day.

Beautiful day for a marathon. The weather was great, the volunteers were very much appreciated and the water/Powerade stations were plentiful. Everything was so well organized! I also liked the ease of the drop bag -- probably because this is a small enough race. Enjoyed the finish and how it seemed to be right there after the final turn -- that definitely helped.

    3. Did you PR?

      No, I wasn't going for a PR.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful course, loved the downhills! I enjoyed the amazing views throughout the run. Awesome support with many water and Powerade stations. The elevation and grade weren't issues for me. The last mile was good -- and I liked being able to hear the loud music and the announcer right before making the final turn.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Not much this time around -- I ran a marathon in late August, a half marathon in late September, and a 10k two weeks ago. If I actually truly trained, then maybe a slim chance of a BQ -- just maybe. My advice to others would be to make sure you train for both downhills and the hills. When it got a bit too hot in the last few miles, I poured water over my head to cool me down. It was so hot that it dried quickly anyway, and it felt good to do. As always, I also regularly took GU and salt pills.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Revel Canyon City would be an awesome first marathon. Yesterday was a friend's first 26.2 and he rocked it! This is a smaller marathon with amazing views and enough downhills to allow runners to PR. Wear layers so that you're not caught off-guard with the cold or heat. Most definitely, a very enjoyable course to run a first marathon.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

After arriving in town, our group from Northern CA drove the course the day before. We definitely enjoyed previewing the route and knowing what to expect for the marathon. Throughout the drive, we were in awe of the beauty all around us. We were also amazed that we would be running through it all the next morning.

    2. Describe your race day.

Race day was amazing. The volunteers were great and there was constant support throughout the course. I have 2 concerns; one was that for the 2nd year in a row, the national anthem didn't start the event. I was at the marathon start line last year and the half this year. The anthem wasn't sung at either one of them. Also, the "start" wasn't announced. There wasn't a countdown or anything. Everyone just started moving and we followed.

    3. Did you PR?

      Nope, but that's ok.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Because I did this event last year, I wasn't surprised by the "hills" but many of the first timers mentioned that those hills were not "rolling."

    5. Tell us about your training.

I didn't train enough to run the half, but enough to walk it.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Drive the course so the hills won't surprise you.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      I am local.

I will be back next year, but if the anthem isn't sung, then I'm done with your series.

    2. Describe your race day.

I was nervous because I had never ran a full marathon downhill. Last year, I simply did the half because I had experienced a downhill half marathon before, and I knew how hard this is. But this year, because a friend insisted (and thanks to God he did) me to do the full, so I did it. It ended up been a great race after all.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes indeed. My fastest marathon ever. I saw some runner celebrating "BQ" I was celebrating "NYCQ" (Maybe this might another sign for next year) because without even trying, not even thinking that this was going to be possible, I did qualify for New York Marathon City next year. Last month, I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2:59:35, and this Revel Canyon City Marathon was 2:47:36, so do the math for me, please!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Just the like the beauty and the beast... tough, rough, but beautiful. Breathtaking scenery!

    5. Tell us about your training.

If someone wants to run this race, he/she has to train hills, especially downhill because this race is mostly downhill. And though many people think that running downhill is easier and faster, don't be fool, it's harder because you need to be more in control of your technique (s).

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Go run it!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Nada.
