    2. Describe your race day.

beautiful day. Fun but extremely challenging day

    3. Did you PR?

Nope. Quads were just too beat up in second half

    4. How would you describe the course?

Great views. Extremely hard on the quads as the downhills get you over time.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained well with multiple hills but not enough just downhill training which is key for this course.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Respect the downhill and try to hold back on the first 13

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Stayed in Pasadena. Ate, shopped, great place. Live in Carlsbad

    2. Describe your race day.

Woke up at 3:45, kinda lagged a lil,ate oatmeal as marathon ritual. Made it to the shuttles with 5 mins to spare! I was a bit nervous on the way to the top as we were going through the narrow winding roads, thinking to myself that I'm going to be running all of this. Ive had knee problems in the past so I was concerned. Then as the sun was starting to rise, the view was amazing. My worries started to go away little by little. Once we got to the top I went to the ports potty a few times just to be sure, stretched and warmed up before the race. Soon it was time to go to the start. Ive had little experience with downhill run so i decided to just let myself go. The views were amazing and soon I saw my mother waiting for me at the finish line as she saw me qualify for Marathon Maniacs!

    3. Did you PR?

No but I did qualify for Marathon Maniacs!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Great course, the hill in the beginning can definitely be misleading.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Didn't do much hill training as I should've.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Incorporate hill training uphill and downhill.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Went to go grab a burger and beer!

    2. Describe your race day.

Started the run seperated from my friends, which was the plan since I'm slower, a little more than half way through a wonderful lady began to pace with me and we spent the rest of the race getting to know each other and pushing one another to finish strong. She was a blessing and how I'll remember this race

    3. Did you PR?

No but I wasn't here to PR! I signed up to prove I can get out and do another half and that's what I did

    4. How would you describe the course?

LOVED the course. BUT I think the course needs to start higher and end at the bottom of the hill, when we hit the flat streets i lost all of my momentium. Had it ended at the bottom I would have kept my pace up

    5. Tell us about your training.

Got out daily even just to do a couple miles

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Plan for it to be super cold cause you can shed layers or just put it in your bag before you start. That made it so nice to be able to drop out bags at the top so I didn't have to worry about layers.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Dinner at the BJs in West Covina and some shopping with the girls! Fun night before

    2. Describe your race day.

Revel Team - I do a lot of endurance racing across multiple disciplines. Point to Point races are always challenged with getting participants to the right place and making their day enjoyable. You have done an incredible job communicating pre-race, race day, and post race logistics. I never felt I didn't know what was going on and during the event, everything went extremely smooth. You did an excellent job!!

    3. Did you PR?

Yes I beat a five year old PR by 14 minutes. I specifically chose the revel race to make sure I had a qualifying time for Boston that would withstand the additional need to not only make the Boston Standard but also the participation limits that require Participants to beat their standard by 2-4 minutes.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Your Canyon City course is very unique. The first half elevation loss is extreme and really puts pressure on your quads and calves for the second half completion. Although this course if fast it is also the most challenging course I have completed.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I train six days per week. Four workouts are focused, two workouts are recovery. Focused workouts included one hill repeat workout, one run at marathon pace, and one long run at 30 seconds slower then marathon pace. My training also included weight training for the first 10 weeks of my 20 week training plan.

Definitely need to include hill repeat workouts for this race and also work on efficient downhill running that does not force breaking with your knees or feet.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

The advice provided on your web site for down hill running is very well stated. Runners should be ready for tired legs for the hills on the second half of the race.

    2. Describe your race day.

Super well organized with an unbelievable setting. I totally screwed up my own race by running the first half way too fast and then dealing with completely shot quads/calves for about 10 miles (idiot!!). I should have listened to other blog posts about that. Though I won't do the race again it's more due to the fact I live in MA.

    3. Did you PR?

I did not and, again, that's due to my own mistake. I did not BQ either and I have before which should tell anyone reading how the first half can trash the legs if not properly managed. I think the race could be a great one for a PR if the first half is managed well and/or for someone who has trained a lot on long distance downhills which I most certainly did not.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Super fast first half (set my PR for a 1/2 with ease) and painful 2nd half, especially the last 10K.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I live in MA so it's hilly but not anything like this course. I did intensive training but had to manage an abdominal pull about 3 weeks prior which shut me down for about 10 days. I was also not prepared for the heat in the 2nd half. I'd been running in 40-60 degree weather for a while so the 70's-80's was a killer.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

This is an exceptionally well organized and managed race. Everything was clockwork and the scenery is inspiring. That said, if you are running the marathon be cautious with the first half and either stay with a pacer or literally dial back a full minute on what you are running. It will likely feel slow but will help immensely when you get to the rolling hills and downhills in the second half.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We stayed in Hollywood and Santa Monica which are both really interesting for this lifelong MA resident. Cali is like a different planet from back East so it was really interesting and enjoyable. Great food, friendly people, and weather to die for.

Very much downhill, two pretty substantial climbs.

    2. Describe your race day.

Had a great time interacting with the people in the race. There were great people performing greatly on the race course. I was grateful for the kind volunteers and supporters along the race route--it's a bit like life, having people there periodically to lift you up and encourage you along your way.

    3. Did you PR?

No. After running in the Big Cottonwood two months ago I endured a respiratory infection, back sprain and even got hit with Shingles. I had almost given up on running Canyon City and earning the Triple Medal. But I had set that as a goal--to Triple--at the start of the year, so I did my best and came to the race with the only purpose to finish. When I realized I was going to make it under 2 hours I felt like it was a PR for me!

    4. How would you describe the course?

It's a lovely course. Not as scenic as Big Cottonwood, but it's good. The uphills on the first half are challenging, but good. I love the start location and the sunrise was spectacular. The Finish line was much better than in previous Canyon City races. Because of the first half, this is not a true downhill course for a Half.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I run a lot and train all the time. This was my fourth half of the year. But this was my most challenging race to train for because of the injuries and illness that I mentioned above.

I'm a Reveler. This is my 6th Revel race, including 3 Big Cottonwoods,2 Canyon City's, and a Mount Charleston. I love the way you put on races. The medals are truly motivational--and anyone who says otherwise isn't being honest. No other race provides better medals. The shirts this year were awesome. I loved that I have a set of cool shirts from the races. They will be in my closet for a long time. Those things matter. There is a kindness from the volunteers that I don't get in other races. The announcer at the start line was kind and supportive and made me glad I was running. I think Revel puts on a good race. I will add constructively that the drop bag pickup yesterday was a disaster. There needs to be leadership there. Big Cottonwood is a much bigger race and that pickup was as easy as could be. But yesterday no one was in charge. Everyone was walking around in there. Bags were spread out. It took me over a half hour to find my own bag and it was 20 yards away from where it should have been. You want to make sure your racers have a great experience from beginning to end and there were a lot of frustrated people at that point, which is sad because that's there last interaction with Revel and the Race. I had an experience with a half marathon pickup several years ago in Provo, Utah. The bags didn't make it to the end of the race for over an hour after I was done. Then it took another hour to find my bag. I would never run that race again. Yesterday wasn't at all that bad, but it wasn't a great experience for some of us. Still, I loved the race. Also, I was a legacy runner yesterday. There needed to be explanation to us all about what that means and why that's important. There were two other people I was with who have been to Canyon City three times and didn't have that bib. Then there were first timers who did have the bib. That needs to be communicated better so we feel great about it. Does it give us a benefit? One other thing--the Triple. It's a great marketing initiative on your part, and at least for me, it worked. Though I live in Southern California I love Big Cottonwood. I set the Triple as a goal and made it happen even with my own challenges physically this fall. I loved the motivation it provided. It would be cool to make a bigger deal about those who earned it. I didn't like having to ask the volunteer for it. It can't be too hard to have it show up on my race results card, or have it be on my bib or something. It would have been cool to have the race announcer announce that I was wa Triple Runner as I crossed. But at the results table, when I asked for my Triple Medal the guy next to me said he was a Triple too. But it was obvious he didn't know what it meant. I think he was a legacy runner or had run three races that summer. The volunteer tried to ask him, but her questions were not specific and she didn't want to tell him no, she she just went ahead and gave it to him. I asked him if he had run three Revel races this year and he didn't have a clear answer and walked away with the same medal I had traveled thousands of miles and purchased airline tickets to get. I just think there could be an improvement there. Keep up the good work!

      Fun, beautiful, and encouraging.

    3. Did you PR?

It was my first race. So yes : )

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful. Downhill is the only way to do it!

    5. Tell us about your training.

      Minimal.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Run closest to the middle of the road. The slant in the left side of the road will tire your feet out.
