    2. Describe your race day.

My race was tough due to injury , but I was able to BQ again by about 25 minutes. This is my third year in a row for the full , and I was lucky to BQ at all three times, even when the out and back was was longer. My favorite memory was the beauty of this canyon, and all of my running friends. Two of my friends stayed after their marathon and cheered me on.

    3. Did you PR?

I was a minute from PR. I think I could have done better if my calves hadn't cramped in the last 3 miles. Just grateful to have run.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The course is not the easy downhill that you hear people , who haven't run it , call it. I think it is challenging , but fun.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I train with Run4fun people and Hometown Heroes. I did quite a bit of trail running this summer to mix it up, and a few uphill races in Colorado , and a few peaks.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Not being an expert , I would just tell them to run All aspects of the course, to get a feel of what it would be like .

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I loved the expo and went to lunch with friends . I happily ran the canyon during the summer , at a pace to enjoy the scenery . It was so crowded towards the end.

    2. Describe your race day.

I woke up really early to drive up to the SLC area from Provo and found the buses easily. At the starting line I waited for a while with plenty of time for my feet to get numb... I was not expecting it to be that cold--should have prepared for that a little better. For me the course was hard but it made it that much more sweet to make it through the finish line. I wish there would have been an ice bath available but I was grateful for the ice towels.

    3. Did you PR?

      nope.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The starting line was miserably cold and might have been aided with some warm drinks or fire pits. The course is a hard and long course because it is so steep for the entire time and the out and back played mind games that makes it hard.

    5. Tell us about your training.

My training was interrupted unexpectedly with a serious illness during the summer for a good 4 weeks. I think I did pretty well considering my circumstances.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Practice the couse.

    2. Describe your race day.

Beautiful day wonderful scenery. The 3:30 pacer guys were a crack up.

    3. Did you PR?

While yes I did cut 25 minutes or so from previous marathons.

    4. How would you describe the course?

As stated above the scenery was awesome. The grades were manageable a couple of steep spots downhill that hurt as much as the inclines on the out and back

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained for this starting in July. Heart rate training which I think helped a bunch. Did not train for altitude or long descents but neither were an issue for this race for me. My heart rate was under control raised a bit at mile 3 and spiked on the wastach section.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Enjoy this gem. You will go out fast and enjoy the decent don't expend your energy until you need it at mile 20.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Traveled from Sacramento and was pretty sore after the race. Salt Lake City was easy to travel to and around.

    2. Describe your race day.

Great day. It was cold and the start line, but manageable. The start happened right on time, and we were off down the beautiful canyon! The miles flew by, and finish line was a welcome sight.

    3. Did you PR?

Oh yes. I came in wanted to just dip under 1:17:59 - which would have been a PR over my last best: 1:19:42. I came in at a surprising 1:12:49. A HUGE PR, and a very welcome surprise.

    4. How would you describe the course?

      Beautiful, welcoming, and very fast!

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained had for several months. I really wanted to PR, and knew this was the course to do it. I did lots of speed work, and long runs every weekend. I did lots of miles, and my long runs often took me well over 13 miles. I knew coming into the race I was ready for both my goal pace and that the distance was not going to be an issue. My advice is: train in a way so that you are excited to run the race and the course, and not nervous about whether or not you can even finish.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Running down hill is not as easy as you think, and it takes a lot of practice. Once you get it down and learn how to roll down hill without having to hold on the brakes you can really fly.

I bought cheap pieces of clothing that I could strip off during the race and discard. Gloves and arm warmers made out of long socks. Great idea.

Don't overdress - start the race feeling a little cold. You WILL warm up. Overdressing will make you get overheated and can really affect your performance.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I am from Lehi. I just woke up super early and drove myself. Nothing exciting to share here!
