    2015 REVEL Big Cottonwood Marathon

    2. Describe your race day.

This race was DEFINITELY catered to the needs of the runners. The staff and volunteers were not only helpful, they were happy and very observant. They asked questions and made sure that everything was taken care of before letting anyone head back out (and not in an annoying way.) The location was absolutely jaw droppingly beautiful. I would recommend this marathon to anyone and everyone!

    3. Did you PR?

I got my PR by only a couple of minutes, because I hadn't trained for the race, and I got sick part way through. No Boston for me. Yet.

    4. How would you describe the course?

The scenery was amazing. Elevation I didn't think was too terrible, but my lungs are pretty weazy. My hands also ballooned up pretty good. Overall I thought the course was great, aside from the few uphill parts that tested not only my physical strength, but also my mental.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I ran a marathon a couple of months ago, and thought my stamina would be carried over petty well. It was not. I would always recommend to set a plan and stick with it. I use an app on my phone (Nike run) that reminds me at whatever time I set it for that I have a run that day. I would encourage people doing this race to work hills. Up and down. The course is mostly downhill, but the up hills come at you hard.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

The starting line is cold, but the rest of the race was beautiful.

    2. Describe your race day.

Did not run even close to my PR but considering I have only been able to run twice in the last three weeks due to injury, I had a fun run and loved all the support from all the volunteers! There is always next year to beat my PR. Thanks to Alta View Hospital for the albuterol for my sick lungs!!!

    3. Did you PR?

      NO

    4. How would you describe the course?

would still love more of the half to be in the canyon but still great.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Trained great all spring had a PR in the Drop 13 but then got pheumonia and was not able to train the month of August. Tried to run tried to run 15 to 20 tried to run 15 to 20 miles a week.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

      Just try it!

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We have a home up Big Cottonwood, so I sleep until 5:45 so nice!

    1. How would you describe the course?

The course was so unique. Everyone is bussed up the mountain, then the course is almost completely downhill. Scenery is spectacular because of the massive mountains on either side of the road.

    2. What advice would you give future runners?

Dress in layers. The start is cold and quickly into the run the sun comes out and you will need to discard a layer. Bythe time you are out of the mountains you are in direct sunlight, running on asphalt roads. You will need to be in your barest layers of running clothes for the last 7 miles.

    3. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

      Louisville, KY
Salt Lake City is so beautiful. And driving the course is spectacular!! We are spending the week in Zion National Park.

    2. Describe your race day.

Eventful!! It was my first marathon and I finished and lived to tell about it!! Did spend thirty minutes in the first aid tent, but that only added to the story.

    3. Did you PR?

Yes, I did but it was my first full so that was a given. I ran a 3:55 and I needed a 3:30 to qualify for Boston.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Down!!! I had done some down hill but now I know it was not enough. Cramps started at mile 10 and required my managing them to the finish line.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I ran 30 to 35 miles a week with a long run ever other week. Long run started at 12 miles and increased to 19 two weeks ago.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

If possible, come run the course often in training. Not sure what can prepare you for this course better than this course.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Hung out with family. Girls took a painting class in Murray. Taveled from Monticello, Utah

    2. Describe your race day.

This race was by far one of my all-time favorites. I'd heard others talk about what a great race it was, but I had it in my head I had to go out of state to be impressed. This course, your communication, and organization was bar to none. Seriously. I will recommend it to everyone.

    3. Did you PR?

It wasn't my best half, but it was my 2nd best. ;)

    4. How would you describe the course?

Perfect. The downhill was welcome, and I loved that you kept the last few miles straight. I hate running corners downtown. Straight and steady.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Honestly I didn't train much. I've run several half marathons and 5 fulls, so I kind of knew what I was up against. I do lift daily and work cardio in a few times a week, but I didn't follow a running training program this time. I was lucky. I knew I had to have will power over miles.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

It's worth the price. Hands down. It may be one of the more expensive races in Utah, but it is well worth it. I still can't get over how well this race was organized. Everything about it. The signage, the volunteers EVERYWHERE, the aid stations, the food at the end, the pizza and soda at the end (WTH? :) ), the free photos and free photo upload, the endless line of tables for free massage at the end... just top notch.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Before - Waited in line for a bathroom. Heck, at least I got in! :) After - had a few bites of pizza once my tummy settled, enjoyed the cool wet cloth around my neck, and shopped! Loved the photo set-up at the end too with the signage!

      PS I traveled from PG!

    2. Describe your race day.

My race day was fabulous until mile 18 and the brutal out and back. I guess the hardest part was seeing the other runners walking on the back and it was a little depressing. Love the canyon and the last 3 miles of course!

    3. Did you PR?

      It was my first marathon!

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful and fun for 18, then brutal for 5, and then fabulous for the last 3.

    5. Tell us about your training.

I did more exhaustive training with my longest run being 16 miles to prevent injuries.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Train for the out and back after extensive downhill and have a blast!

    2. Describe your race day.

Everything was very organized. Amazing volunteers!

    3. Did you PR?

Did not qualify for Boston.. But finished in under 2 hours which was faster than my goal!

    4. How would you describe the course?

I loved the course until the last 3 miles... If there is going to be flat, I would rather it be at the beginning instead of the end! Those last 3 miles were very hard!

    5. Tell us about your training.

I trained down big cottonwood. I liked that because I was able to recognize landmarks and know where I was in regard to finishing.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Practice downhill and practice waking up at that time you would of the actual race and run at the time the race starts as well.

    2. Describe your race day.

Too much time at the start line with the shuttles. With it being cold, it would have been nice to have the long wait time mentioned during all the emails that were sent (which were greatly appreciated!)

    3. Did you PR?

I didn't PR, just missed it by 2 min but I stopped to take pics along the way. Without the pictures, I would have PR'd

    4. How would you describe the course?

Beautiful! Only suggestion would be to shorten the run into town and start further in the canyon. All the car fumes started to get to me

    5. Tell us about your training.

I don't really train. I run halfs every couple of months so I maintain my pace.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Wear warm layers in the morning due to the long wait time at the start

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

I drove the course the day before (which I normally don't do) but was able to stop and take pictures of the area. Stopped by the Great Salt Lake before heading to airport and that was somewhat of a disappointment. Didn't have much time in SLC to do much more
