    2. Describe your race day.

      Race day was great!

    3. Did you PR?

I did not PR, but I did beat my prior Big Cottonwood Marathon time by 2 minutes and qualified for Boston!

    4. How would you describe the course?

I love running downhill, so the course is awesome! The canyon is beautiful and the weather was perfect this year. The out and back on Wasatch is really hard, but I made it!

    2. Describe your race day.

This race will be a real lasting memory. I stuck with the 3:10 pacers as long as I could. I felt like they were friends by the end. They were great. When I fell off the pace at mile 22 they waited at the line for me to finish. That really meant a lot to me.

    3. Did you PR?

I did. Fourteen years after my last PR I razored down the time by... 3 seconds!!! Ecstatic about this. I qualified for Boston by over 12 minutes.

    4. How would you describe the course?

Fantastic until mile 19. The out and back took any remaining juice out of my legs and I was just spending minutes from the bank like I'd won the lottery.

    5. Tell us about your training.

Since I'm older and am trying to avoid injury (and because I like it) I do a lot of cross training. I run 3-4 times a week. I do yoga at least once a week. I use leg focused work out videos, and core strength videos.

    6. What advice would you give future runners?

Run fast at the beginning. I suspect one's legs are going to be fried for the out and back no matter how fast or slow you go down the hills. Take advantage of the reduced cardio portion of the downhill and train your legs beforehand.

    7. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

We stayed in Park City and enjoyed what it had to offer.

    2. Describe your race day.

Weather was a little warmer than last year but it was exciting to catch up with friends along the course and cheer each other on.

    3. How would you describe the course?

      Beautiful, easy, fast and fun!

    4. Tell us about your training.

I did long runs every weekend beginning in June and increased the distance by one mile every week. I also did speed drills and exercises to help develop the glutes to help push me. I probably should have incorporated some small distance runs throughout the week but my work schedule wasn't conducive to that. As far as advice, do the long distance runs and have fun.

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

Dress comfortably, don't drop anything on the road unless you're okay not seeing it again and carb up and hydrate well the day before the race.

    6. What fun things did you do in the area before or after the race?

Our team traveled from Boise so we gathered at Noodles near the expo for a carb-a-licious dinner. Since we had a team of 12 we then gathered at the finish area afterward and enjoyed the music and company of fellow racers while relaxing under our pop up tent. It was a true treat.

      Was the course 13.24

    2. Lane Brooks
      Sept. 16, 2015, 5:38 p.m.

The course was officially measured by the USATF to be 13.1 miles. It is a common question as to why a GPS will typically measure a certified course longer than the official measurement. There are a few reasons for this, but the most common is that a GPS is not 100% accurate and the little errors accumulate over time. Imagine measuring the distance across a park walking a straight line compared to the distance you would measure if you were to meander across the park. The meander is going to be longer. The same is true for a GPS. Because of small errors (and sometimes not so small errors), a GPS will have you meandering as you go. The other source of error also comes from the fact that the certified measurement is on the shortest possible course, which means they measured against the road tangents. If you primarily ran on one side of the road rather than cutting back and forth to run the shortest possible course, then you will measure a longer course. Hope this helps.

Unsure of what to expect. I not only finished, but amazingly for my first half marathon finished in 1 hour and 50 minutes. I'm very excited, and will continue to train for a full marathon next year. Beautiful run as well as the people I met. Thank you.

Yes, this is my first half marathon.

    2. Describe your race day.

Was happy there were plenty of porta-pottys both before and after the race. It was chaos trying to get on the bus beforehand, lots of crowding and no real order or process but we made it. The throw-away gloves and space blankets were great. The cold towels at the finish were awesome. Thanks for having diet coke & choc milk! Loved getting my stats card immediately after finishing.

    3. Did you PR?

      Yes..by 28 minutes :)

    4. Tell us about your training.

ran down the canyon for my long runs once a week for the 5 weeks leading up to race day.

    5. What advice would you give future runners?

Make sure to do a downhill run once a week and make it your long run if possible.
